Can I get a step by step?

Greenback, TN

I am currently soaking my brug cuttings in water and they are all showing new growth (leaves), the all have nubbies and a few have roots starting. Next I pot them up in small pots and water sparingly through the winter but then what?

Hey Tammy,
Sound like you got the rooting going on there!
I would suggest you pot them up as you start to see roots. As well, I would keep them in a warm spot so you can keep the roots growing through the winter...(perhaps the top of your fridge?) To keep the roots growing you might want to keep your soil damp but not soggy. OR, you could just keep your cuttings in a couple inches of water through the winter and pot them up in the spring. If you use that method, you will want to change the water often and watch for rot. Once spring hits and the danger of frost is past, put those puppies outside and watch them grow! Does that answer your question?

TammyTN,
I've had great success with potting the brugs and putting them in a ziploc baggie.... There are several threads that talk about doing this. Keeps me from over-watering......

They really don't require bottom heat, but they do need plenty of light. Either place them in a southern exposure window or provide supplemental fluorescent light. They don't like wet feet. Only water them when they need it. Here is a step by step detailed instruction page that should provide you with all you need...Good luck with your babies!

Thanks you guys! I have a good feeling about these, they look so happy!

I hope whatever method you choose (we all have ways that work best for us, and I too like the baggie method when I do my cuttings log style) that you end up with some beautiful plants and blooms next summer!

Edited to add -- I just realized I used an image of a Datura that had been shredded by a terrible rain storm...ugh! What was I thinking???

Using the Water Rooting method in the link provided by Kaufmann in just a few days I am getting little white root buds on the bottom of my cuttings. I will wait until more appear and they mature a little. When I transfer to soil is there any mix or type of soil you folks would recomend, thanks, George in San Antonio
