Cantua anyone?

Floresville, TX(Zone 9a)

I was really thinking about finding a Cantua after seeing a picture of one, but then I read that they can only take to 85 degrees, which sadly rules it out for me.

Anyone know if that's actually as much heat as they can take??

If you can grow Brugmansias and Iochromas, you can also probably grow Cantua. Another one to look for is Deppea splendens.

Thanks Ron, I found a place to get one and I think I'm gonna have to try it. I have a few brugs, although one was frostbitten and lost a few leaves several nights ago.

I had a Cantua buxifolia, but it didn't like our hot, hot summers. Is succumbed in a (summer) season.

That is what I read, that they like cool weather. So I figured it would'nt work here. I think Kartuz Greenhouse has it for sale.

I saw this plant flowering in Colombia, travelling up Cero Kennedy, near Santa Marta. I was told it gets chilly there in the mountains. But then, chilly that day meant 65 -70 degree Fahrenheit in the morning.
