Gingers

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

My gingers start flowering from the bottom up and the bottom ones start withering before the tops ones have even bloomed. Is there some kind of trick for flowering? I was just looking at some hedychium pics and they're so perfect!

Some of my varieties have always done that and others don't --are you sure yours are not suposed to do that?

I'm not really sure. But the ones I saw were probably grown in a greenhouse under high tech conditions which would be great for any ginger. Mine are just outdoors. I guess I was just saying, Why can't mine look like that!!!!? Lol.

Same here, many of the hedychiums lower flowers will look ratty before the top ones open.

That is what the hedychiums all do to my knowledge. You can tidy them up and make them look better if you pinch out the old faded lower flowers. That is very time consuming, though.
