my first question is what fertilizer you use for cuttings that are rooting in a greenhouse or do you? i use miricle grow on the one outside in the ground( which hasnt helped much he still 2 feet tall) . am i using the right fert or what does everyone use??

i asked this ways back but cant find the thread.

another question now that a severe frost got the one outside do i cut it back now?? its suppossed to be 19 tonight also. or do i just let it die naturally then cut?? thanks marie

good questions marie, hope someone can help, I use miracle grow but it didn't help much either, someone said it dosn't last long on the plants, thus having to do it more often, I also bought a pelletized fertilizer from the local nursery, but it wanted to burn things when I used it in the summer time.

my brugs planted outside have bit the dust, not sure if I did the right thing but I have cut them back and mulched them good hoping they come back next year, I only left 2 outside, the frosty and insignus pink ones.

I don't fertilize cuttings till they are potted up. I use Miracle Grow or Peter's then. One's about as good as the other.

Right now, I'm not fertilizing my cuttings at all. Around the first of Feb. I'll give them a little drink with nourishment. I agree with Susie....... I've used lots of different fertilizers. I've used Osmocote and not used it and can't really see any difference. I'll go with whatever my local nursery is using because that is the cheapest I can usually find unless I get into the city to buy Peters.

I am a relative newbie too-
but I use regular miracle grow potting soil for the cutting.

Then once the plant has started bushing out or 2-3 feet tall, I use Mighty Plant 18-18-18 every two weeks

and "messenger" which is not a fertilizer-
it helps the plant build defenses and stimulates new growth in a hormone kind of way absorbing into the leaves by misting. I love it.
I need to take a piccture of my 6 month old "baby" that is 5 1/2 feet tall and 5 feet wide. He has 9 stems at last count (stems from the ground that is, not branches) I haven't shared a pic because he isnt blooming now, but I guess I could show him just for size. Truly miraculous what he has done in 6 months from a puny stub.

PS he DID bloom several times this summer also- just isnt right now His first blooms he was about 2 months old. He is my miracle boy. SSSHHHH dont tell him, he is about to get a girlfriend or two. (some pinks I am going to try to grow from seeds and cuttings.)
He wont be so lonely with a pink girlfriend, and he might try harder to bloom to impress her, hee hee

yes, I am whacked,,,, so?
