MS Movie Maker ?

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

My new puter was installed with Microsoft Windows Movie Maker, which is a neat movie editing program. However, when I use it and make and save a movie it is saved with the extension.MSWMM. It saves it to My Videos folder, but;
When I try to open the movie in either Dell Experience in which you can play DVD's or open movies in My Video folder, the movie made in MSWMM is not shown.
When I try to open the same movie in Windows Media Player I get an error that it is not compatible due to the extension.
I have tried saving the movie with different extensions i.e., AVI, etc, but still no luck. I have also tried to open the movie in other formats and still no luck.
Shouldn't there be compatibility as all these programs came installed on my new Dell system?
Thanks in advance.
Oh, it also came installed with Sonic DVD program and I can make a DVD of the movie (I guess), will it then play in my Dell Media Experience?
