Mailing Labels with Mail Merge

I've spent the entire afternoon trying to create labels from my Christmas card mailing list in Excel to a Word Label document. I'm running Windows XP and have Word 2000 & Excel 2000. I just can't seem to make them merge. I've used the Help option, and I've even awakened that irritating little Albert Einstein Wizard, and I still can't figure it out. Is there anyone around the Garden that can give me a hand?
