i got me a great deal on three 36" pots which I'm going to put around the pool. would like suggestions on what to plant. no bananas, plummies, crape myrtles, sago, oleanders or hibiscus. already have them in the landscape. sorta of had in mind citrus trees or some other fruit tree and/or palms if low maint and not the kind that grow huge. I don't think I want anything that will grow more than 8'. Your ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Have also been giving some thought to planting a fig tree. My friend has one that is over 65 years old and would share a cutting but she doesn't know if this would work. do they progapate by cutting?
need suggestions for patio trees
Is the fig a ficus benjamina or is it an edible fig? Either way, they are easily grown from cuttings. A Ponderosa lemon, Persian lime or Meyer lemon would do good in a container and they are very fragrant when they flower.
Do you like oranges? If so, try Washington Navel oranges. They look nice and are productive!
cala, i was referring to edible fig. I will try rooting a cutting.
carter, do you recommend a particular nursery for the navel orange?
I wonder if it would be weird to have like a fig, an orange and a lime. then put annuals around them.
thanks so much for your suggestions, I enjoy both your postings a lot. Now if we could just be past this silly freezing spell, i'd be mightly pleased.
Me too, it's not supposed to frost down here. It's way below normal for this time of year.
I agree with Carter, a navel should do good and they are good eating!
I got mine from Teas Nursery over on Bellaire Blvd. I don't know who all else might carry Washington Navels. Most places will carry other citrus (lemons, limes, smaller oranges), but I just mentioned Washington navels because those are the large softball-sized navel oranges you see in the grocery store! I have a couple oranges on mine right now.
Carter.
