Howdy GreenHornet! Welcome to DG!
I've not grown them before but noticed there are listings in the Plant Data Base.
http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/54287/index.html
From there you can read the input from others and I believe you can click on their name, thereby emailing them for their personal hands-on info.
You might also try posting this same question in the Tropicals Forum (not sure it's considered a tropical but it certainly is normally grown in a much warmer climate than yours.).
Hope this helps.
Again...a hearty Welcome to DG!
See you around the site!
Dracena fragrans?
We grow it in very loose crumbly soil that the water runs thru...lots of water! Fertilizer too...high N. but half strength in a pot. Humidity is good too, or the tips of the leaves tend to die....
