My neighbor has a rather substantial bloom of a red algae that is now covering at least a third of one of his ponds (large pond). I have not gotten any of it in my ponds yet and don't desire to. Is it something I need to protect against? He doesn't seem to be too concerned even though it is slowly taking over his pond. Any idea what it is or what to do to get rid of it while still being nice to the environment? Thanks,
Bill
Red Algae
Bill, Red Algae [Rodophyta] is most common in salt water, but there are fresh water varieties.
I posted a link below with more information for you.

I did a rather quick scan of the article and it appears to be more interested in the aquarium hobbyist as opposed to those of us with large ponds (175' x 75' ). Is there the same sort of article on the red (a pinkish red, actually) algae for a large pond?
Tell you what Bill, click the link below and read to your hearts content, there is a myriad of information on Red Algae.

Thanks Aconus (Oconus?). I had already googled and gotten those pages. I guess I was hoping for a bit more homespun response to what I assume is a common issue. Perhaps not. When you have 250,000 gal ponds, things like1 part bleach to 19 parts water seems a bit formidable. I'll keep asking around locally.
