Pastel Cookies-made with Jell-o

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

This is an old favorite of my family and friends. You can make them in so many flavors and colors that the varieties are almost endless.

1 cup sugar 3/4 cup butter 1 egg 3 oz. pkg. jell-o(any flavor you desire) coloring if desired
2 1/2 cup flour 1 tsp. baking powder

Mix sugar, butter, egg, and jell-o. Add additional coloring and flavoring if desired for more intense color and flavor. Sift flour and baking powder together well and add to wet ingredients. Roll out and cut with cookie cutters or put thru a cookie press. Decorate with sprinkles, colored sugars, etc. if desired. Bake at 325* on greased cookie sheets. Remove from cookie sheets soon after removing from the oven or they will stick. Colors can be mixed and they don't run together but they will blend nicely into multicolored cookies. NOTE: Red cookies burn easisly so watch them carefully. These cookies keep quite well in closed containers.
