DVD Recorder & VCR Compatibility Issue

I just purchased a Pioneer DVR-RT500 Recorder & VCR. In trying to familarize myself with its capabilities, I copied (dubbed) a VHS tape to a DVD-R disc. The dubbed DVD plays fine in the Pioneer unit. However, I attempted to play it on my laptop DVD player, my desktop PC DVD player, a stand-alone DVD player and a TV w/ built in DVD player. NONE of them will play the DVD. I assume it is a compatibilty issue but to not play on 4 other units seems a little unusual.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with their DVD Recorder & VCR ? Even though I am able to play the DVD on the Pioneer unit, I would like the ability to play the DVD on other units.

Any thoughts, comments . . .
