I just love the name, that's my neice's name.

Wow that's beautiful!
Whoa, that's phil's he named 'Lexy'...sure is pretty...but pretty pricey for me at this time :(....
I've never bid on eBay but because of this thread, I went just to look and I started biding on Datura seeds, Brug plants, etc..... but not this beauty too pricey for me to take a chance on killing.
To rich for me also but I'm bookmarking it. I'm curios to how high it goes. It really is beautiful
Robin
Its pretty, but too rich for me also.
its up to 41 now
Take a look at this auction. What a gimmick for $305. And the winner if I am reading this correctly, does not even get a cutting. The flower pics make it look like a Frosty look- a-like to me. Can you imagine if you offered an aurea dark pink or one of Monika's to name.
I guess the bidders do not realize anyone can name and register any brug. You could even buy a brug and rename it and register it if you really wanted to! There are no brug police! LOL
I have about 200 seedlings I could sell the right to name. LOL
Amazing what people will think up to sell and what people will spend their money on buying!!! LOL

Well, for anyone who is thinking of bidding on this brug, buyer beware:
This is a 2004 seedling that has not been properly trialed. From what I've read, the hybridizer is pressed for cash and therefore releasing and selling cuttings of the brug.
For those of you that are not aware, a brug should be trialed in various parts of the country for at least two growing/blooming seasons before its released to the public.
Sorry to those involved in the selling of this brug, but its only fair to be honest here. And, if I make someone mad, so be it. I would hope someone would've warned me, had I been interested in something like this as a newbie :)
Edited to state: my mistake -- its not the hybridizer selling this brug, its the seedling parent (grower) who purchased the seeds from the hybridizer. So sorry, Susie!

Judy you've never bid on ebay before? oh man, my husband would love you LOL. just call me the ebay queen he he.
thanks kaufman for the tip, although, we all are thinking the same thing, it's way too pricey for us. LOL.
The most I spent on a brug was 7.99 for the southern bell brug, that's about my max LOL.
kathy
Unbelievable on that auction kaufman, their bidding to name the flower? that's what it sounds like. that's outragious, I've heard that seller's name before. LOL
kathy
oh my goodness! Is there one named 'southern belle' too???!!!!!! I will have to go on a hunt for that since I am a southern belle it is only fitting that I have this one lol!
Lexy is a beautiful flower but for $41.00 I couldn't afford it. Maybe someone will buy it that belongs to DG and offer cuttings this time next year. Wouldn't that be lovely. Dreaming.
I am with ya 2pugs
Kathy_Ann: I know what you mean about your husband loving Judy. We have been having a lot of rain here lately, and my DH told me if the UPS or FedEx wasn't making SO many trips down our drive way, he wouldn't have to go out and repair all the ruts. LOL But I do get some pretty good bargains.
Oh my gosh, I can't believe that someone would bid $305 for the right to have an un-named brug, just so they can name it. This is just crazy!!!
I agree with you, geesh!
This person has to have a heck of a lot more money then I do. Must still be working not retired like me. WOW
Well, that and they must not know too much about brugs...
Gretchen, I did not know that Susie was hard pressed for Cash. She is the hybridizer. I am sure she will be happy you told everyone.
And to be fair and honest. This brug was grown and trialed in different parts of the country this year.
pphil,
i didnt know that she was the hybridzer.
Unreal.
Yes, so sorry Paul -- from what I read on this and other forums this is a 2004 seedling, that was grown here and by one other grower in the south. Not including the plant you gave to the namesake.
And, my most sincere apologies to Cala -- I know she's not the person selling this seedling. That was simply a typo on my part.
I guess it was kell that posted about that $305 auction, not kauffman ,sorry bout that, someone thought it was important to be able to name that brug though, that's neat for the seller though.

Paul, I didn't realize you posted a pic of this beauty on another thread here, I just found it.
It's absolutely beautiful. I just love to see a new double brug .
I think Gretchen just misspoke, Susie sold these seeds to Phil who I do not know. I think Gretchen is referring to the grower not the hybridizer. And from what I understand, Phil himself has posted about his finances so Gretchen told no secrets.
Gretchen is also referring to guidelines that have been established within the Brugmansia community. There is a reason for them.
I know often people feel bad that they cannot have the latest hot brug soon after they see it. I know I did in the past, heck I do even now at times. I would see one and just want it so badly. It seems so long to wait for them to be evaluated and trailed!
Lots of us are trying to follow the guidelines put forth by the Brug Society. But there is no law you have to. I think Gretchen is concerned because brugs that have not had a long enough trial, often show problems in the second year. Many seedlings do not bloom until the end of the first year, so you have not had a very long time to evaluate its flower.
Doubles esp, from what I have learned from Monika, often grow deformed flowers and the brug should then be tossed and not released. Monika has tossed so many new double pinks I could cry! I am not saying here that this beautiful brug does that, I have absolutely no idea. I am just explaining why it is recommended you do not start sending out brugs that have not been evaluated long enough. Also the color is not really set in one bloom cycle also. They can change!
I also have no idea how long this specific brug was evaluated and where it was, and I am not speaking about Phil's beautiful brug at all. Each of us makes our own decisions about our own brugs.
But we all should talk more about the guidelines so we can all understand them and realize what they are and why there are. When they come up now in relation to a specific brug, people's feelings get hurt which is too bad. It would be great if we could talk about them freely, the pros and cons in an unemotional setting.
I know from watching Gretchen on this forum that she is a serious brug grower and I know she only has the best intentions here.
