Hello,
I am new to this site as of last weekend.
We are trying to get retired and moved to Phoenix Area .. We're Trying to find a "Nice" home that has "some land" with it [Maybe an acre or more] .. at a "Reasonable Price."
{We plan on doing quite a bit of gardening once we get there .. hopefully!!}
However, since all the investors have moved through that area in the last 6 months buying everything in sight .. it is now, almost as bad as California prices.
Do any of you 'Phoenix Area' Folks know of any good properties for sale there? We do not mind some "fixer-upper-ing"
Anyone that has any 'hot property' information it would be warmly appreciated.
Thank you .... Autumn16
Transplanting Self From Calif to Phoenix Arizona Area
Hi Autumn. Welcome to Daves. I have a friend who lives in Huntington Beach. Things aren't cheap there, that is for sure. Try looking in the Litchfield Park area, not to far from Phoenix, I think. My niece and her husband bought land there and built. It didn't seem to out of sight.
Thanks Brugie,
Thanks for the tip. I will do that. I have feelers out all over the Phoenix area, as well as my kids looking for me.
Things have changed so much over there, it has gone CRAZY in the last 6 months to a year.
We wouldn't mind building ourselfs, as Husband is a Contractor ... but trying to find even a small parcel of land now is a real fright!
Thanks again for the Litchfield Park Tip .. I will look there. Appreciate it.
Autumn
Autum....forget Phoenix...come on down to Sierra Vista...property is much more afforadable and the weather is not as hot in the summer (a little cooler in the winter...but heck! it is a great place to llive!!
Welcome to Dave's Garden..you certainly have landed in a great garden!! Jo
Thanks Jo,
I talked to daughter in law she LOVES Sierra Vista Area ... so I will be looking there.
Only complaint she has is that it is too far away from them. They live in Chandler.
I am Truly Blessed with a Dgt-in-law that happens to be a "buddy", 'one of my best friends' and is a Sparkling Gem that was added to our family 15 years ago when she married my son.
So, while she wouldn't be as happy to have us move down there that far away from them, she agrees it is a splendid area.
Hummingbird Sanctuary's etc. (Which is my passion.) Where ever I go, I will always have something planted to attract my little Totems (East).
So, Thank You for the tip ... and I will look and let the Universe do it's thing!!
Autumn
Autum....I volunteer at the Coronado National Memmorial once a week...just got home in fact....we are only about 3-1/2 hours from Pheoenix.
If you should come down this way on a "Discovery trip"...please let me know and I'll be glad to meet you and show you around the area.
OK...so I am a little too friendly...but I was raised that way...back in WV and VA. Jo....a safe old lady
Autumn, you will never meet a sweeter lady than Jo. I'm sure you would enjoy her a lot. If I were there, I know I would be making use of Jo's help. It may happen on day. Never know from day to day. LOL!
Hey There,
Everyone is so nice, friendly and willing to help! I am so glad I stumbled on this site, by accident .. looking for a "Roasting Chesnut Recipe" .. which I immediately got. What a find!!!
I am so glad for any help and or suggestions I can get. As for being a "Safe Old Lady" ... Aren't we all?
No, you aren't 'too friendly' ... That is also the way I was raised ... in the 'back woods' of Michigan. Oh, so many years ago!! I have yet to meet a swinging barn door I couldn't hold a conversation with!
This business of trying to find a place to retire (semi-retire to) is 'tiring' in and of itself! I told husband, when we turned 65 .. Now that we are all grown up, we have to decide what we want to be .. but worse then that, where we want to be 'it'!!
But, we will work it out eventually. Just takes time and thought. And a great deal of research.
Jo, I will be looking up Sierra Vista on my map and on the Realtor.com site on the web. Thanks. And trust me, if/when we come down that way I certainly will take you up on your kind invitation to show us around.
Brugie, I see you are in Iowa .. how far from LeGrand? That is where my sister and neice/family are. I think they said just outside of Marshaltown. (?) If you are close to them, you get some pretty cold winters there don't you?
Must run for now .. I will be looking on the net for properties. I think to get any size property we WILL have to get further out of Phoenix then the kids will want us to be ... but we have to do what we gotta do!!
Later, and again Thanks
Autumn
My Mother-in-law's family are all burried in the LeGrand cemetary. That would be about 90 miles from us. Small world, eh? A good friend of mine is the Marshal County Jailer. Marshalltown is where the jail is.
Most definitely a very small world. All my sisters inlaws were from Marshalltown.
a big welcome and hello from upstate new york where land prices are out of this world.
Autum...hurry up and move here and WE CAN GO to the Iowa Round up TOGETHER...and you can meet Brugie (Shirley) and some more of the great people in Iowa. I suprised them last year...what a great time we had....
Anyone that can hold a conversation with a barn door is my kind of people...I like you already!
Jo
Hi Sally,
Glad to see you found the Welcome Mat forum. Since I've already welcomed you privately, I thought I'd jump in here and warn you about this lady Jo. hehe She is one of the nicest and friendliest people you could meet. I have had the pleasure of meeting her 2 times so far. She also has the honor of having met the most DG members so far.
She came out here in Aug. and I held a small garden party for her and a few other DG members to meet her too. Here is a link to the garden party:

Sorry I haven't replyed to your message, just haven't been on the puter much, with the holidays around the corner. I hope you continue to enjoy this wonderful site.
Talk to you soon,
Donna
Mz Donna, honey...you haven't replied to MY Letter either....but I still love you! LOL Jo
Welcome from Tucson AZ. We are only 2 hrs. from the Phoenix area. In fact I have a son & his family that lives in Avondale. A small town northwest of there. Maybe you might want to try here. You would be a little closer to your children. I don't think prices are as high as Phoenix. I have only lived here 7 years. But I also would be happy to help out if you wont to try around here. Just let me know. Hope you find something with out to much trouble. Moving can be a BIG chore!! Binky :))))))))
Another warm welcome from chilly Iowa. Hope you love DG as much as I do! Good luck with your hunt for that retirement spot! Desert is a good way to go . . . that dry air treats our joints good!
Hi, Sally -- Welcome to Dave's Garden! We always are glad to meet our fellow Gardeners.
Hope you enjoy Arizona, and get the place of your heart's desire. I can tell you first-hand
that retirement is the joyful life. Get settled in and then come to Roundup at Prizer's Point, Ky.
You will receive a royal welcome. Yo-Yo1 -- Melody's Mom
Glad to have you join our garden neighborhood here. I love this web site. It's my second home. Enjoy looking around. You may find this place is addictive. :)
