Every time this plant sets buds we get a storm and this past week was no exception! It was loaded with buds(and had leaves too, lol) and now most of them are lying on the ground but a few managed to hang on and these two were opening this morning. They look a bit ratty because the lemon eucalyptus growing next to it has a branch that beat the leaves right off the DP.
Finally a Double Peach flower!
Gosh Susie, that wind down there is horrible. I don't think I had better think about moving that far south. LOL! I wish you could see this one bloom nicely sometime. Notice her fragrance in the evening. Reminds me a lot of VO. Awesome.
It seems like we always get strong winds here, on the major weekend holidays when we are up at the lakehouse - I come home to see alot of damage. I plan on keeping all my Brugs on my front porch this next year - but will still have to put something up on the southwest corner to block wind, on the weekends that we leave. Anyone have any ideas?
Oh poor things.....the wind did really beat them up badly. It is a beautiful bloom and I hope you get the opportunity to see how it really looks. Are there any months in which the wind subsides? You might have to move this one to a different location to get to see her real beauty. Shirley, I am glad to hear that the fragrance reminds you of VO because that is such a wonderful scent. One of my favorites.
I can hardly wait for mine to bloom this summer. It is a beautiful brug.
Welcome home Susie! Love to see you here. I have taken up on the tropical forum just to visit with you. I think I am a nester by nature. LOL
You must move again, that is all there is to it, fantastic home or not. . And luckily with your job, you will find a brug paradise!
So beautiful and it must be tough too!! Good job!
Bonnie
Kell, I've been planting windbreaks, but the main problem with this one is the lemon eucalyptus next to it. The branches from the LE beat the brug up. The fence is a pretty good windbreaker.
Susie, I have a bunch of your seedlings. These seeds were purchased on ebay from Cala's Tropicals as "Mixed Doubles." Some of them have the most wonderful soft furry leaves, and some of the leaves look like yours. I can't wait to see what they produce. They are almost a year old now and should flower next spring or summer. I've been having a hard time keeping the worms and caterpillars off them, but they look great. Your flower color above is beautiful! I hope the winds let up for you. They've been coming here also.
Well, congrats on finally getting a double peach! So sorry about all your wind damage though... It looks like it has lovely potential!
Awsome Susie!
Clare, the cats love this one! They will eat it first everytime.
Don't they get sick?
If only . . .
So Susie, is this a new one of yours or the NHE double peach? I guess I just assumed it was the one from NHE.
I haven't hybridized anything close to this Brugie(that's Monika's department, lol, I've still got a lot to learn). It's from NHE. I should have said that to start but I guess I thought people could read my mind.
At least it has more blooms in this one flush than my HG has had in it's whole life(three years plus).
Did you get HG to bloom? That is the biggest dud for a brug that I've ever seen. It might bloom some for a few people, but it just doesn't do a thing for me. Two blooms in three years is pretty hard to deal with. LOL!
Yep, it had two blooms this year, one opened all the way and I forgot to even go look at it! The second one started to open and then fell off.
Hey, that is a real flush!! LOL!
Well Clare, that is a miracle as far as I'm concerned! I've had my HG four years and have never seen it bloom.
Wouldn't you love to see a tree full of those, Clare? Awesome looking bloom if they would just consistently bloom for us. Gloria, you must have a lot more patience than I have. Four years is a long time to be waiting.
Good job Susie!!!
looks like you are in the coveted HG club Clare. Congrats!
I will be wishing you all double pinks and yellows!!
NHE? What is this?
Beautiful brug, Susie, even if it is injured!
It is pretty Susie! I am sorry about the wind.
With all that wind Suz, I guess you better send that one to me!
Mel
Clare, I think there have been a few colored doubles(mostly yellow) from the double crosses I sold on eBay. I used Creamsickle and Golden Lady as pod parents and only used pollen from colored parents.
Mel, if you want this brug, you've gotta come get it! I got your bottle Jatropha the other day, it has a bloom on it, but I broke two leaves bringing it home.
NHE is Native Habitat Ethnobotanicals or something like that, they are in Florida.
Way to go!
Thanks, Shirley, Gloria, and Kell. Yes, I would love to see a tree full of blooms like this one, but I don't think it is possible with HG because of everyone else's experiences. I'm debating whether I should toss this blooming one because of that, but I've decided to give it another year to prove itself.
Thanks, Susie, for that info. I'll be sure to post a picture of the blooms when I get them so that you can see them. They are the only seedlings that I am growing, and I'm excited about them.
That darn wind! I know at some point you will have a big beautiful flush.
I left my HG accidentally out last week and it really frosted badly. It had 2 flowers that were almost open, the 2nd skirt had dropped. They looked terrible though. I am deciding if I should do a mercy save or not. It almost deserves to die for teasing me so.
