Can't you just imagine the babies in there? I love giving birth to the seeds. It is so exciting to open the pods and see the seeds either come out in one big clump or drop out easily, already separated. Then to start counting...... Sometimes there are so many, a paper plate won't hold the little piles of ten. You are going to have fun before long. Congrats.

Congrats! That's so fun!!! I had a bunch of pods (20+) that I should've harvested before we got that hard freeze a couple of nights ago. I lost every one! I hope yours is filled with lots of beautiful baby Seuss'!!!

How will I know when the seeds are ready? I hope we dont get a freeze before then.

Do you know when the pod formed?

The pod will turn very dull and look mushy, and brownish when its ready,it will feel soft too,and you'll be able to feel the seeds inside

ok, somebody tell me how many years it will take to get a pod? My mom has a white one in her yard, (almost 10 years in fact) and has never had a seed pod. Is there something special we should do.

Duh!!! I get it! (I've been sick) We need another to pollenate it!!!!! But I only have 2 and they never bloom at the same time. More--more--- I need more!

Tell her to get another brug. Takes two to tango in this case. Save pollen to use when the blooms are available to pollinate. It is easy. Calalily has a little lesson on pollinating on her site. Here is the beginning page of it. http://calastropicals.com/content/page1.html This should help a lot.

I dont know how old the pod is. In fact , earlier this summer I had tried unsuccessfully to pollinate. I had given up. this pod and the other one I have were pollinated naturally by unknown. I just noticed them yesterday. I had a bloom flush a couple of weeks ago and I guess they came from that. Maybe a passing moth did it.

The pod is more than a couple of weeks old, would be my guess. How long is it, just the pod part? I am still waiting on pods to mature that were started in July and August. They are really slow once the weather cools down or they have to be inside a cool garage with little light. You might have to bring the plant in to see it finish off.

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

The pod is 6.5 inches long. I hope I dont have to bring it in. The brug is about 7 feet tall and the span is about 6 feet. Big plant. It certainly could be older than a couple of weeks old. However, most everything was stripped off of the plants when Ivan came through, so I am pretty sure it was not there in early September.

Congratulations to you :)!

I'm sure it is way over two weeks old. When did Ivan hit? I wonder if it was there and Ivan was kind enough to leave it hanging. For some reason, once the pod sets well, the peduncle (stem) becomes very tough. It is hard to get the stems to separate from the plant even. If it doesn't get too cold, toss a blanket over it at night and hope for the best or cut it back and leave only that branch on it, cut it off down at the ground and stick it in a bucket of water and see what happens. If you are going to lose it outside, you won't be out anything to try to keep it this way. Good Luck!!

Ivan came through in early September. It took me a week or so to dig my brugs out of the debris. I am sure it was not there then. After I got my brugs back up, I had a flush of blooms. That would have been the middle of September.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That was the time then. You could be getting close to it maturing if you can hold out a little while longer. Most of mine matured at about three months while the weather was warmer.

How exciting! I'm still wating to see a bloom, much less a pod!
