Beautiful specimen. I don't I've heard of atropurpea before, is it a cool weather bloomer?

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes she is a beaut eh?
The answer will be NO this plant apparently likes it warm and moist, here in Houston its a semi-tropical and this year we had no hard freeze. Only on X-MAS eve we had up to 2in snow. Passiflora was fine, but a bit burned on the leaves due to snow, I had some late blooms from this one but only few. My incense(purple) and yellow passifloras are in hybernation until next heatwave

Sounds like a good one for my area then! Are you looking for any passion flowers for trade?

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

Hello there CaptMicha!

I'd be happy to trade you seeds/cuttings. Passiflora it's easy to grow, coud be invasive if not careful, rapid grow. I have a couple red ones, a yellow one (passiflora citrina)with really interesting leaves they look like a ducks foot =)
But the one I really love is the "inscense" it's purple and very very fragant and very delicate petals
here's a picture
enjoy!

I love incense, it's so lacy looking... and I haven't even smelled one yet!

Mine are kind of small, I'm hoping they'll take off in the spring. I have:

Adularia
Nephrodes
Caerula
Serritifolia
Lady Margaret, if it comes back... it may have up and died on me

I sowed incarnata (an extra hardy one) and alata. I'll be starting foetida alba, quadrangularis, edulis, morifolia, ligularis seeds soon.

Then, I'll be buying more passies in the spring.

I don't think I have enough! Lol.

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL I totally agreed! I dont have enough of these flowers I also have the "granadilla" or scarlet type with a bright red color
love to trade some with ya!
check out the granadilla

That one is really pretty too, I think I even wrote that when I saw it in the plantfiles!

Do you have others too?

I'm going to start buying more right as soon as my new balance shows up. I just bought an orchid I've always wanted! It cost a little bit more than I usually spend but it's worth it! http://images.google.com/images?q=Bulbophyllum%20medusae&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official_s&sa=N&tab=wi

Is that a cigar flower?

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

I known her as "Brazilian sunset" Gloxinia Brazilianesis I think the color of the flower explains the sunset part ;) she tolerates even likes it cold, hummingbirds just love this easy-growing plant.
here's another shot at it

I saw this plant at the nursery today, I opted for the heliotrope instead. I've been looking for that for a long time, it really does smell as good as they say!

What kind of light is your gloxinia in?

Houston, TX(Zone 8b)

hmm helitrope is one of the most fragrant!
my gloxinia was on a pot getting morning sun,as soon as I put her on the ground she's replicating like crazy! so Im expecting great things from this one in a year or less =)
