Marigolds anyone? Dwarf French Marigolds for SASE

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I have the following french marigold seeds available:

Disco mix (dwarf single flowers in red, orange & yellow)
Bonanza Bolero (dwarf french double flowers)

I will gladly send for SASE. Email me if you are interested. I would also welcome any trades - please check my trade list.

Thanks - Susan

I notice you've adapted the trade list to the lazy way too. Much easier than individual entries, and much faster to get rid of when you want it gone. I don't think you'll be able to get those named Heucheras from seed. I do have a few of the items on your want list though. Some of them would be better as root divisions or cuttings in the spring (along with the ligularia).

That's nice of you to offer your marigolds for SASE.

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

echoes - I took my lead from your trade list. I had a look at your list when we chatted before and thought that it made sense (less work) to do it that way. Did we talk about Ligularia? I think it was Filipendula?

I am going to try some winter sowing for the first time. It sounds like an interesting process. You do have a couple of seeds that I would like to try:

Delphinium grandiflora blue
Thalictrum rochebrunianum

Can we work out a trade? I'm assuming that marigolds are out since I saw "Nothing Orange" on your wanted list.

I am a rookie when it comes to the science or biology of plants. Thanks for the observation about the Heucheras - I suspected that they would be questionable.

Thanks - Susan

What's this - actual trading on the Canadian Trading forum?! Careful, you'll start a dangerous trend! Actually this is useful info ... hope you don't mind if I eavesdrop. :-)

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Heck, that's how I get all my useful information...eavesdropping! I think I'll do my trade list that way too. Thank you ladies! :-)

So frustrated. Server was so slow this morning I couldn't get in here. Susan, you're right it was filipendula I'm planning on sending you this spring, and who know what else by then. My seed list is almost ready and then I can do an SASE for you. I'll email you later on. In the mean time, how about some pictures of southern AB. Make me nostalgic.

Brenda

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Echoes, I don't know what is going on with these servers lately. This morning it was sooo slow and on Wednesday night it was just ridiculous. I wonder why this happens?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I've been having the same problem. I hadn't been able to tell yet whether it was just DG or my whole internet connection...we just got high-speed "lite" and I had heard that it slows down if more people are using it. Hmmm.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

The problem was with Dave's.....people from all over were reporting that they were having problems.

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OK Brenda - Here's a couple of prairie pictures. They might make you nostalgic - they make me plain mad but they are typical late summer scenes. The first shows one of the hail storms we had this year as it is moving in and the second one is taken less than 30 minutes later after my garden was flattened!

After the storm...

Aahh yes. Thank you. More?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

At this time of year those images are gorgeous! Love the glow of the fields against the dark sky! Hate the hail tho......we've lost many a crop to it. :(

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Oh alright, just one more... How about spring in Southern Alberta? This was taken in April 2003.

;b.... you're a mean one!! We're gunna be seeing *that* soon enough! :b Frozen solid now.

The first two are beautiful. The second one gives me some nostalgia. The first and last ones could have been taken here. Very similar. We just missed the hail this year, but we often get snow storms in April.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Susan, those hailstorm photos are beautiful! Although, of course I'm sorry about all the havoc they wrought. The first one really shows the cloud formation well.

That late-spring photo - is that a puppy dog I see standing there?

Gorgeous photos, Susan. I was commenting to my DH, for being south of Calgary, it looks pretty flat. No Foothills were you are? I heard you guys and a chinook through there yesterday. Windy and very warm, huh?

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the photos.

Shannon - That is my pooch Kirby running down the driveway with her fur flying in the wind. I introduced her a while back on the Pet forum http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/457368/.

Donna - I am actually 60 miles southeast of Calgary - the Foothills are more south and southwest. To the west of our property is a rolling type of terrain but to the east (in the rainbow picture) it is definitely flat prairie farmland. Yes, the last couple of days have been breezy but warm 7-10 degrees. Today it has turned and there is a bit of snow happening.

I know that they are just marigolds.... But can't I send some to anyone? Here is a picture of the Bolero type.

Just Marigolds, Susan, they are lovely! You can sure send some to me. I'll send you a SASE on Monday. Is your address in the exchange?

Thanks Susan.

P.S. Now I see why it's so flat where you are...you're close to Saskabush! Hee Hee, Hope Pam isn't watching!! Actually looks a lot like that were I used to live too, Edmonton.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

:b There's a huge snowball coming your way Donna! :b

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Donna - I didn't realize that there was an address exchange. I found it and have added myself to it. I will let you know when they are in the mail.

I have loads of these to share. I have been planting in rows between my veggies. I'm not sure that they actually help to repell bugs bugs as some people say, but they do add a lot of color to a green vegetable patch.

Susan

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

I do that too, Susan. It helps brighten up an otherwise dull vegetable garden. I alway buy a couple packets of chive seeds too, for the same reason. Every little flower helps. :D

Thanks again Susan...watch your mailbox for my SASE.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Mossleigh, what a pretty name! And a New Year's Baby! I know what that's about...I'm a Christmas Baby! :D

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Now I remember Kirby! She looks different in this picture!...must be the blizzard she's trying to run through. :-)

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Donna - That's not my birthday - I must have skipped over that field and it filled in with Jan 1. I have entered the right date. Christmas must be a extra special day at your house.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

LOL, well I am glad that I brought it to your attention then. :)

I don't know if my birthday is really that special for any one else, but it's special to me. I have always felt priviledged to share it with the Savior. And of course, I had a special family that always made sure there were double presents and birthday cake on Christmas Day. I still get double presents, but I try and beg off any birthday cakes now. There's always enough sweet stuff around, and a round of Happy Birthday is enough for me and my waistline! :D

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Those are beautiful pictures Susan. Poor Kirby...and to think that my sister is having a day like that in Saskatchewan today. Hopefully, they're all tucked in nice and warm. I take it that the weather has been horrible all week where she lives which is north of Lloydminster.

Your marigolds are lovely. They're different than mine. If I didn't have so many marigold seeds myself I'd love some too. I'm never going to get rid of any of mine. By the way, I finally got my trade list finished last night so if anybody wants to see if there's anything they'd like, let me know. I'm afraid I don't have anything too exciting I don't know anything about an address exchange. I guess I'll have to go and look for that.

Sandy

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Sandy - Thankfully we aren't having that blizzard like weather now - just cold and a little bit of snow. I didn't know about the address exchange either. You can find it under "Extras" on the "Home" tab of the menu. I'm off to look at your trade list now...

Susan

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Donna - Just to let you know, I have received your SASE. Your marigolds will be in the mail Monday.

Susan

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Oke Doke, Thanks Susan. :D

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

I sent your seeds last Tuesday Susan. Let me know when you get them okay? Things are probably moving a little slower in the mail these days.

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Sandy - I will let you know for sure. It will be interesting to see just how long it takes. I mailed yours last Tuesday also.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Interesting that you should be talking about Christmas mail. I sent out my parcels on Tuesday afternoon. They were fairly big ones. Thought i'd give them plenty of time to get to their destination, 2 to Edmonton and one to Northern Saskatchewan. Talk to my Mom today in Edmonton. She received my parcel already. 3 days! It was taking 5 days just to get a letter through to Edmonton before Christmas season. Boy, Canada Post must have turned up the burners!!!

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

I just got your seeds Susan. Thanks so much. I like the way you packaged them up. I'm just learning how best to do that. A card as well....thank you.

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks for the update Sandy. The mail must be moving faster heading east... I picked up my mail today and your seeds weren't there - just a bunch of pesky old bills! I will let you know when they arrive.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

durtcom, those clouds before the hail storm are amazing. I think if I was living there, I'd be running for the hills, or basement. They look real menacing.

Linda in Victoria

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Sandy - I received my seeds today. Thanks for a great trade! I look forward to getting them growing!

Linda - It was a nasty one! My garden was levelled but at least it's just a hobby and not my livelihood. There was extensive crop damage in the area from that particular storm.

Happy Holidays everyone!
Susan

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Susan, thank you so much for the seeds that arrived today. You were wonderfully generous and I thank you for the marigolds as well as the Hollyhocks you sent. They will be a a welcome addition to my greenhouse this spring and then finally, my new developing garden. Much appreciated. :D

South of Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

You're welcome Donna! I hope they will fit into your garden. Lucky you to have a greenhouse - I wrote a letter to Santa but I'm not sure it will fit on the sleigh this year.

Happy Holidays,
Susan
