esw, that's a very nice looking plant. I'm not familiar with the growth habits of heather. I'm sure it's not a perennial here in my zone 3, but isn't it indigenous to the mountains?

Weezingreens, I love the grey foliage on this one....not very green at all. It doesn't show up well against the bark though in this picture. I should have used a background of some sort.
I did a quick look up and the heather society pages list all of the genera of heathers and heaths. Some are found in the arctic circle zone 2! take a look:

Thanks, Sue. I found this heather that grows in Alaska, but it's Sitka. Southeastern Alaska is the 'Florida' of Alaska. They are really much closer to Pacific Northwest than Alaska: http://www.nawwal.org/~mrgoff/pictures/picpgs/2981.html

And here's another Sitka variety: http://www.nawwal.org/~mrgoff/pictures/picpgs/69810a.html

Cool pics, Those look more like the Erica species with little spiky leaves emanating from the stems...interesting.

If someone had asked me if we grow heather, I'd have said 'no'. Of course, the weather is much milder in Southeastern Alaska.
