Just a little info for those who need to know. It depends on which way you ship them. I don't send anything that requires custom forms. If you send 1 pound or less to Canda..you can use "Global Priority" It is a flat rate of $8.00. There are no forms needed. Affix the sticker so it can be scanned. I pick these stickers up at the Post office. So I can just put the $8.00 postage on and stick it in my mailbox. You can not use a priority box for this. But just a plain box. If your package will be over a pound. You can send regular mail..It will just take longer. Custom forms are not required unless you are sending something extremely large. Hope this helps!

Sending Plants to Canada..
Thanks, I'll need this in the spring. Bookmarking it right now.
Thanks Kim.. now maybe I can send a few cuttings to someone who ask me but I thought it would be too much trouble....you're great!

Wanted to let everyone know that may be sending to Canada that at my postoffice they have a brochure/pamplet up on the counter that states that Canada has a new law for any US mail coming into their country now. I believe the law may have went into effect last week. It states that the Canadian addressee label must be in ALL Capital letters and that it must have Canada listed at the bottom of the label address. The PO clerk told me that if the address was not done this way, the package would not be allowed into Canada. Hope this will help someone before they head to the postoffice to mail. :)
Hi Kim, by sticker, do you mean the green customs sticker? I can't even send a bubble envelope without the postmaster making me stick a green customs sticker on it. I'll ask him about the Global Priority and see what he says. He's a stickler for doing everything exactly right, so I'm sure he'll tell me about the capital letters thing too.
It's terrible your PO's are making you go through this. Because it's not required. With all the International Trading and sending Plants I do...I have only filled out 1 custom form. This is Because I was sending a LARGE box to England and it exceeded the (no custom form) limits. The box was $28.00 to mail and he got it in 5 days. I aslo put on the custom form what was in the box and listed every plant.
Now back to the Canada Sticker...It is a Sticker approx. 4x5. It's Red white and black, has a bar code and "Global Priority" on it. It can't mail without it..if your sending Global Priority. I don't even like the PO..So I have my supplies right here. My PO lady gave me Airmail stickers...delivery conf stickers..anything I want to make my mailing easier for me. I sent a Package (plants) to Pakistan last week. I put the Airmail sticker and correct postage and stuck it in my mailbox. Needless to say...The person in Pakistan received the plants.
Now as far as some of the PO people.. who are sticklers and want to do it right...Then they should not be making you fill out a custom form...LOL.
Max. length 24", Max. length, height, depth combined 36" (1 pound) Global Priority
Maximum length and girth combined 108" (Airmail Parcel Post)
So do you know how big this package would have to be??.. before you needed to affix a custom form...

The last one I sent to my SIL in Regina was a 5x7 bubble envelope - with red maple leaves inside. Their college student boarder from Thailand was so disappointed they didn't have maple trees, she asked me to send her some. :) The postmaster said it was obviously not written material in a bubble envelope, so I had to put a customs sticker on it. The small, green stickers, about 2"x2". I'm afraid if I asked for Global Priority I would be standing there for half an hour while he read his 4" thick books to decide what I had to put on it. grrrrr!
Very True! That's why you should be informed when standing in line. I usually tell them what's going on...LOL Just get educated on them! LOL. Next time they say you need a custom sticker..
Stand up straight and Say....
" This package meets the United States Postal requirements. The Maximum length and girth combined do not exceed the limit. Therefore No custom forms is required".
Ha ha ha ha! Just making fun..But seriously...
Forms are not needed for envelopes. Unless the envelope exceeds these limits:
Max. length 24", Max. length, height, depth combined 36"
In a town of 800 people? Joe's the boss!! He would just tell me I'm wrong, in a somewhat condescending way - been there, done that. I was told this summer that I have to bring my boxes in 20-30 minutes before closing time, because that gives him time to look things up. Honestly, can you believe it? I've had better luck asking him about something before I actually bring a box in, in the morning and then I can gauge what mood he's in. Sometimes he's wanting to chitchat, other times he's all business. (His daughter was Homecoming Queen last month and she is the biggest sweetheart - she's just precious, not a moody, snobbish bone in her body! Go figure!!)
ROTFL!!!! Soooo not funny kooger..But I'm cracking up here! ha ha ha ha I know all about those small towns. And that BIG BOOK they pull out.. So I'm picturing it in my mind! ha ha ha
It keeps life interesting! Maybe next spring I'll take my boxes to Sioux Falls and mail them there. I always get there weekly so it wouldn't be a big deal. Definitely gonna check out that Global Priority...but maybe not here in town. :)
kooger, I know whereof you speak... my PO is very similar. When I get something express mail or overnight, he will call me to ask if I want to come pick it up or have it delivered on the next day... (the PO is only 20 miles from me). All mail that goes out from my PO is routed through springfield. So it is 2 days before it actually gets a postmark put on it... When I was mailing a package to Canada he gets out this giant fat book and starts trying to read how to do it... I said, well, that's ok, I think I will take it with me to springfield... LOL... ah well, country life is worth it...
and frustrating, and interesting!! LOL
