I have not seen any local pecans around here this year and the ones coming in at the farmers market from out of state are $125 - $135 for a 50 lb bag.
Yours sure do look good.

Hello Blondmommyof2, Ncgardenaddict, and Geo1ThiChi.
Yes the pecan crop this year in Texas is amazing, there are so many that the squirrels gave up and let us have some, we usually get what they leave and sometimes it is not much. We have 2 native pecan trees that are rather young,
30 and 20 years old, they volunteered themselves in our yard, so we consider them a gift from God with the squirrels' help, they love to bury them, and plant them everywhere.
Our next door neighbors have three trees that are cultivars so the nuts are a lot bigger than the natives. This is hard to beleive but they don't like to pick them, and they were letting them rot on the ground. So we asked their permission and gathered them. We are planning to share them with family neighbors and friends. The prices that George quotes seem very high, they go for 1.99 per pound in the shell, and 5.99 shelled around here. Thank you for your comments.
Sincerely, Josephine.

What a great photo, frostweed! A lovely lady with lots of yummy pecans! It adds a personal touch to the PDB!

Thank you Weezingreens, I am very flatered, and yes a personal touch is good.

I've thought of posting the picture of my homemade leek soup under King Richard Leeks in the PDB, but I think that would be pushing it! It must be nice to have pecans growing in your area. They are truly expensive in the stores.

Dear Weezingreens, you could post your picture with your delicious leek soup on the recipes forum, by the way, I do love leek soup. Then you can post your picture in the PDB holding a beautiful bunch of leeks when they are ready.
That way you can show both.
Sincerely, Josephine.

Right you are, frostweed... I may have already done that, but it would have been last year, I think. I sure can't remember that long!

Enjoyed your Web page, Josephine. Flowers are so lovely and the pictures so clear I can almost smell the flowers while listening to birds singing in the background. Wonderful gardening/composting advice, too. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, ashamed to say, I just now looked at your link. What lovely pictures and such a nice caption. Thanks for sharing that, Josephine!

Hello Weezingreens, Patp, and everybody, I must say that the Lord has blessed me with inspiration, the health to put it into practice, and all the beautiful things He created, for us to use in a loving way. He also blessed me with a wonderful husband, who helps me with the heavy garden chores. I couldn't do all the work without his help. He also designed the website for which I am very grateful, because it is a tool to spread information, as well as a way to inspire others.
We still have the trees and shrubs to put in, and of course as we all know gardeners are never finished. Thank you all for your kind comments.
Sincerely, Josephine.
