Jungle Red Hibiscus

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

It's been blooming like crazy. But even if it didn't bloom at all....the foliage is gorgeous.

What beautiful color!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

That is a beauty! Is Jungle Red he name of it? What is the foliage on it, variegated?

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

It looks like the foliage is cranberry colored and shaped similar to maple leaves? I believe this is a form of Hibiscus Acetosella - with red blooms rather than pink like most I've seen.

I'm going to have to check around on this Hibiscus and find me one. It is really beautiful. Ricfl keep us posted on how it is doing. Just a few pictures every now and then. LOVE IT.

I have this one and I love it. The flowers are so dark they are almost black! It's got seed pods, wonder if it's easy to grow from seed?

Calalily do you remember where you got your Jungle Red Hibiscus?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I got it from another gardener, it was a little rooted cutting.

Thanks Catalily. I will keep searching for one.

I have a lot of seed pods but they aren't ripe yet. I'll post when they are ready cause I'll forget who wanted one by the time they get ripe! Does anyone know how long the seeds take to ripen?

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

My red shield is blooming now, but isn't the dark red like yours. I love it anyway.

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

I cut back a huge bunch of the Jungle Red and threw it down into the swamp after it was damaged during Hurricane Ivan... darn stuff is rooting down there so I have lots. Mine is blooming now as well and it is so beautiful. Shame the blooms don't stay open ALL day... could be because we've had so much rain lately.

This is a photo of my bloom..
