Pine nuggetes poison to plants?

Everglades, FL(Zone 10a)

My hubby said that someone at work said that when you use the store-bought bagged pine nuggets, they give off a harmful acid to your plants. Is that true?

Are you talking about pine mulch?

I mulch mine in pine straw every year with no bad results. Soil can be amended with lime to compensate for too much acid.

I use the pine bark nuggets to add acid to our alkaline soil. When they start to break down(decompose) they use up nitrogen so I always add a bit of fertilize when I add new nuggets.

I am so glad that the pine nuggets are OK. I just put down 50 bags!
Pretty soon we will be mulching up dead cyrress trees that I would like to use in my nursery pots. So I assume then that I should add fertilizer or lime?
