CLOSED: Asclepias

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I'm looking for any kind of asclepias plants for trade or postage.
I just brought in 29 monarch cats but will probably only have enough food for a couple more days. I have some seedlings started but not big enough to feed as yet. Please check my list at the bottom of my member page for a possible trade. Will also do postage. Please help the monarch movement. You can see a picture under the butterfly forum.
Thanks

Hi,
That's great. Do you want a trade or postage?

Jan,

I have several pots FULL of 'SilkyGold' asclepias and would be more than happy to mail around 7-10 plants to you Monday. (Don't know why I haven't had any Monarch caterpillers this year....)

A 6" x 38" priority mailer from here to there would cost approx. $3.85 (so UPS.com says)

Since the mailer is only 38" I would have to top a few of them. Would that be acceptable?

LMK,

Not a problem (can you include the tops too) extra food. How would you like the postage?
Paypal or mail?

Yay! I found it! This place sells artificial diet for monarchs. http://educationalscience.com/butterflydiets.htm

great site. I like the idea of the artificial food but it says they have to be started within 1-2 days of instar and since I breed them indoors, I don't see them until that are quite large. I'm definitely going to have to stock up on plants.

This afternoon my DH and I were in the greenhouse making sure everything was okay after the cool temp last night. On the way out the door he asked what happened to my butterfly weed. (A bi-color plant I was given in Houston earlier this year.) When I turned around this is what I saw.

Thinking I had broken the top off with my big rear end I went over to inspect the damage. And what should I see on the other side of the hanging top...

That's too funny. Out of the 28 or so monarch cats I brought in, 17 pupated, 5 cats remaining, 6 died or pupated inadequately. Of the 17 pupated, 1 emerged Monday, 1 on Tuesday and 6 today.
At least 2-3 more should emerge within 24-48 hours. I told a bunch of photos and will post a link shortly.
