Asclepias Surprise today

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Look what I found in one of my asclepias beds. I counted 27 monarch cats. It was getting dark so I may have missed some.
Most are pretty mature and should eclose soon. It will be raining monarchs here next month!

Congrats! I found some on Sat.! I counted 18 Monarch's and 6 Queens. (more could be hiding) I have the Queen's inside because I've never raised them before, but left the Monarch's outside under a mesh laundry hamper. A little later this week I will bring them in before they pupate so I can watch them eclose. Too fun!

Up to 30 now. 5 have pupated so far and 3 more starting. I'm running out of leaves but I have some plants coming by mail so hopefully they will arrive in time.

Oh my, I hope your plants get there. There's nothing worse than running short on food for them! (well, there is worse things, but...) I've got a ton of milkweed so I'm thrilled that they are here to use it. I'm very surprised that they are here so late tho. It will be at least another 2 weeks before they become butterflies. I hope the weather stays warm for them, and the rain lets up. I am going to take some to my son's Kindergarden class to show them. Hope they don't squish any!
