New computer-internet problems-Urgent help please!

I went a bought a new computer from Sam's Club (I appreciate their 6 month return policy). I am having trouble with signing onto AOL. I get there but have trouble signing onto websites. I had to restart a couple times after I received an error message that my connection was lost and there were errors with the software. One of the times I rebooted, the computer tower made the loudest grinding noise I have ever heard a computer make. I already had an AOL account, so just had to update it to the new computer (newer version). Any ideas what the problem might be? Is it AOL or the new computer I just bought? Arrggghhhh.
