A LIL SYMPATHY PLEASE???

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

I was so upset with all the rain & high wind we have had over the past few days it just blew this poor baby over and ripped it's roots up!
I waited all summer just to see a few blooms and just when it's loaded poof~ bye bye blooms.

Whah! Sniffle ~sniffle.:(

Oh, MsCritterkeeper, that's terrible. I am so sorry! Weather can be nasty everywhere this time of year. Chin up! There's always next year...I'm sure that helps, NOT!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Okay MsC. I'm going to try hard to feel bad for you! *trying*trying*trying* Okay, it's not working. Your in zone 9 and I have a bad case of zone envy! It's 38F. I'm tooooo busy feeling sorry for myself. *snort-giggle-crrrryyyyyy****

p.s.
just read about all the rain you guys are having. I sure hope it dries up soon.

aaawwwww, stand it up and maybe it will finish blooming.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks so much... a lil sympathy does help more than you guys know.
I know it's hard to feel too sorry for me in my zone...but even the best of zones have their let downs..lol

datdog~ I understand completely about the zone envy...at least you know to expect snow & cold...here just when we relax-BOOM we get just enough snow every 7-10 years or so to kill everything we've collected and then we get to start over. Ah the joys of gardening.:)

This year has been soooo odd for everyone I read about on DG's, some were cooler some, warmer, some dry etc...

Now, we have moved into our monsoon season.
One day it's hot & dry 80's then the next it's near freezing & flooding.UGH !!!

I did tie it upright to the canopy and hope it can stand the wind pulling on it-otherwise I'll have cuttings for everyone...lol

hugs to all
MsC

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

well MS there are two ways at looking at this, we in our zone can (and do) feel sorry for you, on the other hand we MAY get a cutting we would not otherwise of had, just thinking :) save a Y cutting for me pretty please

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

MsC, I have had the same weather as you but nothing uprooted even with all the heavy rains and wind. I would upright it and it may go on and bloom.

Speaking of snow......we have not had any to speak of where I live since the mid 70's when it did stick and gather. Other than that, I have only seen a few very extremely light flurries that lasted only a matter of minutes and only in the air because they dissolved as soon as they touched the ground. Where do you live on the coast? I guess where you are, you have more of the ideal condition for snow than I do.

I agree that some years we do not even get a long lasting freeze and the winter does not bother anything but other years we do get one or two freezes and it is enough to destroy plants but fortunately most of what I have will come up out of the ground in Spring. I am lucky that the ground never freezes here and that I do not have to go through all that many of our DG gardners do.

Here we are getting close to the end of November and we have not had cold weather to speak of yet . . only chilly and for a very few days. I think sometimes the eratic temps that I have confuses the plants......lol

I hope you get to see blooms on your plant!

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Kereoke...I'll be glad to send you a cutting, it does bloom frequently here and is an easy & carefree one, but it's just an old "un-named" variety I started with and not really one to be convented..lol

BrugNanny,
You are very close to me and actually your area usually gets worse weather than we do. My daughter lived in Alvin for a couple of years and seemed like every tornado & thunderstorm alert would set right down on her area.
I'm in the Texas City area only about 30 minutes or so from Alvin.
The past 2 days were sooo windy I thought I missed a hurricane report. Did you get any of that really bad wind & storm Tuesday or Wednesday night???

True we don't have really "nasty" weather like many of our DG buddies and for the most part we are in "Zone Heaven", but the weather can still reck havoc on our lil pieces of heaven.:) with it's unpredictable crazy weather.lol

I did prop it up and tied it with a rope to the canaopy then I snatched up an old board and set it so maybe it would give it a little more stability...

I am sorry for this tragedy but on the plus side if you do trim she'll even be stronger next time.I have zone envy also.
I am also a nut I guess I put mine in the ground and dig it up in the fall.
I do hope she'll keep blooming for you.

Oh no, that's terrible and here I was just being thankful we got rain(lots of it, but we always need rain). Didn't think about you guys up there getting drowned out. Hope your plants recover quickly.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Looks like Amarillo TX must have snow, my daughter and husband are traveling and said they would stick it out for awhile

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Can one be conceited about their zone?! LOL! I have come to the conclusion that, IMO, zone 8 is close to perfect. If we do some manipulation, and don't have an abnormally severe winter, we can often "fake it" and make a microclimate that is close to zone 9. The summers are hot and do tend to fry a few heat tender plants, but in my area at least, we do have a bit of humidity so if you plant in part shade you can often offset that fact. Unlike my friend in west Texas (zone 7) where it can be just as hot but she loses plants because of the dryness and wind. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :) BUT, we do have nasty clay soil to deal with so it's a trade off I guess. Oh, and if you are a big fan of spring flowering bulbs you wouldn’t like it I guess b/c you normally have to replant them... or dig and refrigerate which I REFUSE to do.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

It is sometimes hard to believe the extreme temperature differences just in the state of Texas. Snowing in Amarillo and now warm and sunny here and shorts weather down near the coast.

Kareoke . . hoping for a safe trip for your daughter and her husband.

MsC.....yes, you are just a hop and a skip from me. My Mother and step-father lived in TC for many years.

We did have the bad weather you are talking about. Rained for two days and two nights and was windy. I have to admit that I opened my bedroom window at night so that I could hear the rain and thunder better . . so relaxing to me. It is now very warm and sunny out and this morning I found that it is still sweating weather.....lol and I even have on shorts.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Yep, shorts and sleeveless shirt weather here today, hard to imagine it's snowing at the top of Texas!

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks all for joining my lil pitty party...lol

I should have put it in the ground already and just kept putting it off.
Now that we've had a nice rain & the ground isn't has hard as a rock... guess what hubby will be doing come Sat morning..lol

Isn't it interesting to see all the different weather zones in Texas alone??

Calalily - I'm pretty sure this old brug will be fine..one of the nice things about brugs is if the wind breaks them up you can just start a forest with the pieces..lol

kareoke- My inlaws are in the Panhandle & have already had their first snow too. It's way too cold up there for my old bones,I only visit in the spring..lol

texasgarden- True you almost have the best of all zones but I've been there in those nasty lil ice storms Dallas is found of and I think I'll stick it out down here on the coast. You are also right about bulbs... If I plant it I sure ain't going out there & digging it up...to old & lazy for that kind of gardening...lol

BrugNanny- I've been here all my life and love the weather & the area, but the neighborhood has declined some over the years.I just hate the thought of moving and don't know where else I could have all my critters & plants!

It's now partly sunny & warm 82 on the patio .I had on jeans & a sweater this morning and now I've changed again, to shorts & t-shirt.. maybe that's just my hormones swinging again..lol

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

MsC- the ice storms are brutal... BUT, we normally only have one a year and it lasts for like 2 days. Normally in March. What I hate about that is I have normally gotten a bad case of spring fever, and against my better jugement, planted some things that first week in March when it gets warm. Even though I KNOW it's a trick and I know what's next.... 20 degrees and frozen solid! Then, less than a week later it's warm and sunny. LOL!

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh we do have something in common...March's spring like weather always gets me too! lol

One of my earlier ventures was to buy $200 worth of plants like marigolds, impatience etc and plant them all....they lasted about a week and we got a nice light snow... the "snow" we only get every 10-15 years..:)

Oh I'm so thankful I don't do that anymore! 15 more years of gardening experience is worth something...

MsC :)

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

So sorry MsCritterkeeper. That is really heartbreaking. Cala we are still in shorts too but have had a few cool days..

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

MsC,

I am hopeful of a speedy recovery for your Brug!! So sorry!!

Judy

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Our Brug has broken through the bottom of the pot and is firmly anchored in the dirt. It is also protected by the porch and many other plants. We live halfway between Alvin and Texas City. Every time a severe storm is over Alvin, my Dish stops working. It helps me prepare for for what I will have in about 10 minutes.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Sorry! We live about halfway between Alvin and Texas City. Our Dish stops working when the severe storms are over Alvin, allowing us to prepare for what will hit us in about 10 minutes.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It is always upsetting when something happens to our brugs, compliments of Mother Nature. I went through it several times last summer and the brugs, tho they looked bad, came back and produced tons of blooms and leaves. They just seem to want to grow for us. Yours will soon be looking great again and maybe the stress will make her set buds quickly. Crossing my fingers that you have tons of blooms soon.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks so much for humoring me,Brugie DonnaB & judy...

I know I shouldn't whine I've seen a lot worse from some of the pics posted from the storm Brugie had, & a few others, too.

I had a terrible summer here and had no blooms...it was so dry the only thing I grew on the brugs were spider mites, so when it cooled off & set the buds I really was happy.

You guys are nice to let me whine a little...lol

I guess there's always next year.:)

MsC

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey Miss CC!! So sorry to hear about your brugs :( ....but I loved the rain but could have done without all that wind! Hope it still blooms for you :)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Do you have frost down there? Maybe this is the best part of the year for you. I know that even in Iowa when it is really hot, the brugs don't care for it much. Last year we didn't have a good blooming year until after the first frost. Then they bloomed like crazy for a couple of weeks. I'm sure you will get some blooms. I hope it is bunches and that your blooms continue to show up for months. Remember, those of us in the north need you guys and your pictures to keep us happy all winter. LOL!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Brugie is right, I would be lost now without this Forum, and the pictures

San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

MsC, sorry about your Brug blooms. Hoping for a speedy recovery for your plant.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh no!!! Im sorry it got uprooted like it did. Thank goodness they are tough little things!
