Advertising link not showing on screen??

Reading posts in this thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/467433/ (read Dave's comments near the end of the thread) and found out I was missing the Advertising link at the top of my screen. We have anti-virus and spyware software loaded on our computer...does anyone know how to adjust these programs so that we can 'see' the advertising tab at the top of my home page?
