Help - puppy eats patio

Long Beach, CA

I'm sure a lot of you have had this problem and I've had puppies before but forgot how I taught them not to do it. I guess I didn't work and had more time to train them. Well, I have a new 9 month old puppy (Dino) and all of my dogs are outside during the day while I'm at work. Mr. Dino now thinks for some reason that the outside patio is there to be eaten. He has started to eat holes in the wooden floors which I then covered with carpet. Now he starts eating the railing and I mean eating. I don't know how to cover this up and I definitely don't know how to stop him from doing it, especially when I'm not home...
Is there anything I could spray on the wood that makes him not chew on it? Any ideas? Please help!!!
