Brugs got frostbitten

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

I thought the brugs would be safe in the unheated greenhouse, with our temps in the 50s during the day , but we had 2 nights where it went down to the upper 20s. I even covered them those nights but the second morning everyones leaves were hanging down. I brought them in right away, and the leaves are dying. The main stems look OK. Will they recover? Is there any first aid I can give them like fertilizers and such to see if I can reverse any damage to the whole plant?

Doris, I think they will be fine. Just don't over water them now. It won't be long and you should see new leaves popping out. Don't worry.

Brugs can tolerate temps as low as 28F for brief periods of time. The leaves and possibly the tips of the branches may be killed but as long as the trunks and main branches do not freeze they will come back.

Good. I shall move them downstairs too. I could leave them in the family room, but that window faces north. there were a few others that do not look good, like the morning glory tree and cleradendron and a few others that Deb brought over. Guess I have to wait til spring to see what WILL grow in the greenhouse!

OH too bad!! Last winter I had a few brugs that got frost bitten and their leaves all turned black. They did fine in spring! Good luck!!

That is good to know. The leaves here are all black so I shall hope they will start to grow again. They will be in a sunny window for the winter. Thanks for the reassurance.
