Need advice on a Bloom Booster

Northern, IN

Thanks to the generosity of Brugie and Ronna, next year will be my first adventure with Brugs.

I want to make sure that I have everything on my shopping list and the one item I'm uncertain of is a "Bloom Booster". From what I read, it is something I should have.

Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

Brugmansia thrive on a fert with a low middle number (quoting our resident experts)
Scott's or Peter's 15-5-15
micros are also important but try to get them already in the fert you buy.
If you start adding one of them on your own you could unbalance the nutrients and start another problem.
In temperate zones you could probably find Palm Food that has the same formula.

Everyone uses MG or equivalent all the time with good results. Easy to apply and easy to find.
Nix on the bloom booster !

I do use 20-20-20 by Peters and do very well with it in soilless mixes.

I will add to the "just say no to bloom booster" opinions. Those ferts have a high middle number (P) which is the opposite of what you want for brugs.

Anyone know why they require low P yet bloom so profusely? Inquisitive minds want to know...;~)

There is a post by Calalily on this thread that explains what the high middle number of a bloom booster (phosphate) does to a potted plant/soil. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/397274/

Terrific information! I know that the P binds up in the soil...but that explanation is so well put!!! We put it in the hole (dolomite) and then add a bit of MagAmp slow release at root level.

Thanks so much.
