Buds,blooms and bees

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Here it is Nov.16...temp this EARLY am was barely 42 and I have more buds and blooms then I had all summer. Right now it says about 64 on the patio. I guess with the daytime temps being cooler the brugs don't close up as much? I can still smell some and the bees are in brug pollen heaven. Have to remind myself to look before sticking my nose in a bloom! LOL So far most are pinks, but one is looking yellow and another has an apricot or melon color to it. There's one that should bloom tonight,hopefully...can't wait to see what color it will be.

LOL judycooksey....I have enjoyed being a new brug mommie this year, but Bill is ready to choke me and them. Oh well...he'll get over it!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

They are beautiful. Do you know their names?

Judy

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

No the only one whose name I know is Butterfly and the buds haven't opened on her again yet.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Very pretty Ginger...I presently have more buds and blooms than I have all summer also.
I notice at least some of your brugs are in shady areas...mine are too, otherwise they wilt quickly.
Is your first 2 photos of Whiskers?
Enjoy!

Pretty blooms Ginger. I hope the frost holds off until you have seen all of the buds open. Maybe some of those bees will provide you with a couple of pods or so too. It's fun to watch the pods grow.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Margie...I have no clue
Brugie...the bees have been very busy the last few days. I watched two "get into it" inside one bloom. LOL Guess they both thought it was their private property!

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Gosh Brugie if they form seed pods how are they going to ripen, does she need to take the whole plant inside to continue the formation?? ginger to you have room inside your house for some of the pots without them being cut back?

Judy

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is right Judy. I have one plant in my familyroom that has a couple of pods on it and it will probably take another two or three months before they ripen. My plants in the garage have been providing ripe seeds for some time now, but still have lots of pods hanging on them. They take quite a while since it is cool out there and the light isn't very good.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Isn't it Dr. Seuss that has the toothed leaves? And the pinks look like Frosty. All are very pretty! Butterfly is a special one! You will love it. Great job!

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Thanks ya'll
kell...the first one has toothed leaves as you can see in the pic,but the one with the bee does not. I guess two different brugs? The first is looking a bit orangy today. Does Frosty smell kinda like licorice? the ones in back do.

Brugie...if a pod does form can I cut that branch off,put it in a pot,try to find a corner in the house for it and still get seeds? or would it need to remain on Mom?

judy...there's barely enough room in this small house for me,Bill, the 4 dogs, and assorted junque. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Ginger, if a pod does form, your chances of getting it to make it to maturity are better if you can leave it on the mother plant. I've never had good luck getting a pod to hold on a cutting, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. To be honest with you, when I dug my new seedling up that had two pods on it, I was afraid they would be stressed and fall off, but with fingers crossed, they are hanging in there. Good luck. Maybe next year you can grow one in a pot that you can bring in and pollinate blooms on it so you can have that first seed pod. If you could pollinate in July, most pods would be mature by now, so you might think about pollinating some planted in the ground if they get in gear and bloom quickly for you next summer, early. In any case, have fun.

Lovely blooms, Ginger_H! Who's bookin' that bus to Florida!!! Where's the sign-up? Who me...zone envy....noooooo

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Great pictures, Ginger.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

LOL...we have 10 acres if anyone wants to camp out!

Judy...trust me,I don't think you'd want to take on my crew for the winter. They are ALL rotten and range in weight from about 72lbs. to 151lbs. They also know that the furniture is THEIRS. and they eat plants.
