Varigated Leaves, easiest way to start 'em?

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

I have a plant that I started from a leaf, probably 10 years ago, I did it in water as that's how my Mom always started them. I have tried since then to get more started to no avail. The leaves are very pretty & the flowers pink singles but pretty just the same. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Oh No another addiction! Arugh! I have barely recovered from my Brug addiction!

I've only done a couple, so I hope someone else will respond. Pick as green a leaf as you can find, and keep it less humid and in a mix of vermiculte and perlite (or similar) that is less moist than you might keep it for regular leaves. At least, this is how I was advised and it worked.

This is a good thread to read about propagating leaves.http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/afrviolet/msg101358581536.html?9

It was an awesome read about propagating in ziplock bags.

Here's some more general info that you might find helpful....

I have found that the variegated leaves do better as Keyring said with more green on the the leaf and less white/cream. They seem to be a lot slower, too. Seems like they take forever to send up babies.
You also might want to note that they may not show any variegation at first... or they maybe all white. The all white ones seem to die and the green ones will over time if grown a little cooler produce the proper variegation.

Good luck with them and keep us posted on your efforts.

I use a tray shallowly filled with damp peat/perlite with saran wrap placed over top. I have heard that humidity is a great factor in yeilding higher variegation in AVs and related plants.
