Solandra guttata in bloom!

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

This was blooming tonight and wanted to share with everyone here. I got this awesome plant from Mzmunchkin. Thanks Trish.

I'll post two different picture to try and give a different perspective.

Here's a side picture. Not a very good one I know but I just wanted to get the tubular shape across to give an idea of the general bloom shape.

wow that's really beautiful and exotic

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

It's one of my favorite plants. Very fragrant blooms.

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

thanks for posting the pics... it is as beautiful as I remembered... thanks also for giving it a good home.

Floresville, TX(Zone 9a)

Very nice flower Hugo; I've only seen the yellow flowered ones before.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks Chris,
I also have the yellow one but it's not in bloom. The yellow one would be the Solandra maxima.

Trish,
The small cutting that I have for your mother also has a bud on it getting closer to open by the day. I hope to get this to you in time for you both to see it in bloom.

These seem to be evening blooming plants but this is the first bloom of many so we'll see what the others do as they open up too. It's neat how the fragrance flows even before the bloom opens.

Aaaaw, that's pretty! Is it a creamy color?

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

It is kind of cream looking. I know the other (S. maxima) is more yellow than this.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I have a very nice small plant of the solandra maxima that another DG friend shared with me. I haven't seen it bloom yet but am looking forward to seeing flowers on it this spring.
Bug I really like yours also, maybe in the spring i'll have some things we can trade again (that's a hint to get me one of those suckers rooted) (LOL)!!!!

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Cats,
I'll be glad to try and root some for you. You've been super generous with me and I'm glad that I have something that catches your eye. Send me a little reminder in the future and I'll try and remember too.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

that is really pretty, I love flowers that have a nice aroma

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Thats cool
I didn't know it came in other colors!!!

Knoxville, TN

Lovely photo!

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Well,
Now the blooms have faded into yellow as time passes. It seems that the more time passes the darker the yellow becomes.

The photo above is right as it had opened up.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Here it is again in the day time after it's been open for a while. As you can see, the bloom fades into a yellowish color.

Oh Hugo, that is fantastic!!! I cant wait until mine are big enough to bloom. They are both quite small. Thanks to Trish also for these!

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Well Lisa... I'm sure it won't be long. I have a small cutting that I rooted that has a large bud on it. The bud is almost larger than the entire plant. Trish is awesome isn't she.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 8a)

Hey Bug - very cool! Just back from Disneyworld and saw these while there and put them on my "must have" list. Never realized the blooms were so BIG! Saw some other stuff while there that I'll be posting for ID - why do they had all the live oaks and crepe myrtles labelled but not the weird stuff??!

PNW, WA(Zone 8a)

BugFreak I just looked in the database for info on these plants and there was no pictures at all. Maybe you could add yours. They are such nice pictures. Also in the comment section there is only one person who has anything to say about these plants and it was neutral.

Robin

I'll have to post this in the PDA. Thanks robin for pointing that out and for the compliments on the pictures. I'm beyond neutral. I love it.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Do you have this growing outside in your zone all winter? I love it too. On my list for spring!

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

This will be the first winter I have it but I will be bringing it in for the winter. It will need to be brought in based on what I've read.
