Christmas / Thanksgiving cactus
They sound like fun! Please count me in! What are your mailing needs?
I would love to try it. I have a red and a fushia and love them both.
Yes, I would love to try and grow them from seed. I have a hot sunny window that they should like.
One package left...
Oh ME! (I keep swearing not to come to this forum anymore LOL) You have mail! :~D
Hey, poppysue. How and where do you find the seeds for this plant? I don't now this yet.

I know what you mean NW - mine haven't even had flowers yet, much less seeds!
But mine are 6 to 7 year olds!
They have bloomed outragiously ever since I've gotten them.

Ok, Robin, rub it in! lol!
Robin, The flowers need to be pollinated by hand. Since they're in the house there aren't any bees to do it for you. I use a little brush or my finger to put pollen on the little stigmas.... It doesn't always work but I managed to get several pods.
Thanks so much for the info poppysue!
You really came to the rescue once again.
They spent the entire summer outside; but there were no flower buds then.
I will try it though, see how it works. As there are plenty of blooms now!

Sequee, I'm sorry, they are probably still pups.
You have to do the chill thing; and the dark earlier timing thing to them.
I left them outside a long time through out the summer.
Then they stayed outside as the temps dropped till a steady 40 degrees at night, as the daylight grew shorter and shorter. Then I took them in, they had already started to bloom.
Placing them by a drafty (cold/cool) window can also help them bloom.

My boss said he brought his out this summer and they are blossoming for the first time in years. I'm also wondering if they need a bigger pot. They're in a 4" pot now (and since I got them, actually). Domeone told me they do better rootbound, so I left them. Was I misinformed?
You guys are great for giving me advice. I appreciate it!
Sequee,
Mine were rootbound last year, and they had bloomed like crazy. Do you feed them once a month? That's one thing I had done during the summer months, when they went outside.
Mine bloomed twice last year through feeding once a month, and in a bright but cold and drafty, large bow-window, once starting in October, then again in February.
This year they started in Sepember - was it the bright but in 'indirect', dappled sunlight that was the cause? I don't know.
HTH,
~* Robin
