Have you dealt with the comp.Hartus Botanicus in Fort Bragg,Ca ?
I'm searching for this beautiful Brug and have only found two sources for it .The other is Ebay
If you have any dealings with them please let me know or know a for sure source for it .
Thank you
Barb
Brugmansia Sanguinea Source ?
I have not even heard of them but I did buy some seeds on ebay, I just planded them today in my mini greenhouse
Kartuz has them. Though I will say the 2 I got from there are so mottled it is gross.
Has anyone seen this beauty in person?
I've not seen it personally, but know people who have had it. I know Kell had good luck with it, but she is the only person that has had what I would call good luck. A couple of blooms wouldn't hack it for me. I had one that I thought was going to make it to bloom and I cooked it. They don't like the heat much at all.
Thanks for the input:
I ordered one from e-bay pricey!
17.50 after shipping and all .
The person had real good feedback so hopefully it'll be a good plant.
After seeing your input Brugie you got me scared.
Well,I'll try my best.
Didn't mean to scare you. I hope you have really good luck. You'll have to keep us informed of how it grows for you and if it blooms, how well.
Will do.
All the cuttings from KRNYSGIRL made it through and are all rooting some with leaves already!I'm using the plastic bag method over the planted cuttings.
It's great.I'll be begging for more cuttings soon to grow in ponds.I have one in the the house.
I purchased 10 Sanguinea seeds from Seedrack, Whatcom Co. Seed Co. I think it is for $3.62 plus I think it was $1 s/h. That is expensive but seeing what a hard time people are having getting them maybe not. I got those off of ebay from them for tht price too.
I have not planted any yet so don't know.

I purchaced the seed also, just got impatient and greedy wanted something sooner. So hope it works out.
Barb
the new thompson and morgan have these seeds for5 seeds for 5.45 in new 2005 catalog .www.thompson.morgan.com
OMG tazzy, that is outrageous $$$
'specially for sumpin almost no one can grow unless they live in the mountains on the West Coast seems like.
Once in a while one of us commoners do get lucky tho ...... lol
Wish I had seen this earlier. I purchased a 4" from http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/list/parent_redirect.htm last year and I am about to have my first bloom. Actuall I ended up with two plants. The roor of the original grew through the drainage hole into the soil. When I went to pick up the pot, there was no way other than breaking off the tap root. That root is now producing leaves in a one gallon can. Guess I must live in the right place.
I went to Hartus Botanicus once, but my timing was poor and there was no one there. There are several specialty nurseries in that small community and I would expect good things from any of them.
I could probably part with a cutting or two if I were offered the right thing. (anything unusual)
Lucky you living , where you are =)
They are something else, aren't they ?
Both Renee and I were able to get some blooms this year.
In Wisconsin yet !
Surely due to the cool summer we had. The one day it did get up to 91°
.............. I coud see my sangs start to melt.
I am sure this will not happen for me again unless the weather stays on the wrong track next year too.
But, I will not do anything special for them. IMO , they are not very pretty, they have small blooms and had no fragrance.
Compared to the "Belle of the Ball" type brug blooms , a sanguinea was described as a well dressed woman in business suit.
The bud on my red sang was stuffed and by the time I decided to cut it open to pollinate, the flower inside was moldy )':
This was one of mine

Dear PotEmUp:
I tried to order from Anniesannuals and they said they would not ship to Ky.
I did not ask why.Just went somewhere else. Is that Pic with flower all the way open?
I guess I've just done something really ignorant!
I should have spent the money on something that smells and looks good.
Next time I'll wait till you all reply before ordering something foolish.
Well,Dear Husband says we paid enough for them we're going to love them .
I don't think I want any more cuttings of that one.I have esculenta 'Black Magic'and Green'Ruffles also Alocasia Crassifolia and Cadierii If anyone has extra brug cuttings that fits the smell and look good catagory .Charles Grimaldi is the only one I've seen bloom and have been told he does not smell as sweet as others and I just love him.
The photo is of the flower not yet open. See pdb for fully open. http://davesgarden.com/pdb/showimage/54197/ (Happenstance just lives "up the road" from me) I am sure you will love it.
Dear PotEmUp
Why would I click on the image to look at something that ugly larger? LOL Yup, I'm the one that bought 10 of these seeds. Maybe if there are people out there that would still like to have one of these uglies I might be talked into autioning them off.
Haha, just kidding. Will laugh when I get a pretty red flower.
Jeanette
bbkoi,
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
You will be tickled pink ( or red lol ) when your Sang. blooms , just for the fact that you have something unusual that not many of us can have.
I grow my brugs in the ground, but Renee has hers in pots , so when it got hot out her DH brought em into the AC.
(Now hers is in the basement blooming it's head off under lights.)
See , there are ways.
Best of luck.
When you get a bloom, don't sit and stare at it. Get some pollen from it or for it..... and be a bee .........lol
Shirley
Shirley:
I'll be that bee!
Charles blooms between Christmas and Jan.At least he did last yr.and I see some itty bitty buds.He also bloomed in both summers this and last.Maybe by accident we're doing something right.16 hrs.artificial lights.
I wack him down to bring him in the fall.Durring summer I plant him in the ground.I'm not dedicated just insane.
Hah! That's the same way I grow my brugs . If not 'whacked' and dug ........... I take cuttings for next year.
I'm not home enough to look after tree brugs in POTS!
If it looks like you are getting a bud on your sang , start looking for some pollen ASAP.
Sanguinea will cross with arborea and vulcanicola only.
I sent some pollen to sue (prudence) in Ireland, for her beautiful red sang.
Now we are waiting for news .
Beautiful sang ya got there but Sanguinea will cross with arborea and vulcanicola only.
See if Candy has some pollen. She has almost everything growing at her place.
I'm out of arborea pollen for now , until she blooms again next Spring.
PotEmUp your ugly is gorgeous. I can hardly wait to get mine going. Jeanette
That ugly thing is drop dead good looking, unusually beautiful and different!! Photo good too...
what is ugly about it, I love it, I have seeds planted (6) hope they do OK I saw a lovely one on ebay, price was $13.95 and has two more days of bidding
I guess I should clone this one and put it on e-bay. There are two more blooms starting to open. Everything is running late this year. Tomato is still setting fruit and the tuberose just bloomed a couple of weeks ago. Passion flower is still putting out flowers and the fruit is not yet ripe (except for 1 about a week ago) A cool summer has really slowed things down. It's tough living out here in this climate. ;-}
I am waiting for Candy to have her garage sale - I assume their country home project is still in the works.
George
I bet you could sell it right here on Daves LOL
If you really want the one George has, I bet you can order one from where he got his. Annie's Annuals. I have bought 3 of this sang but have yet to see it bloom. She sells fat little ones in 4 inch pots for under $5 at the nurseries around here. I do not know how much for mail order.
http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/list/available.asp
kell I checked it out. must have at least a $30 mail order.
I will wait for my seeds to grow :)
George:
Thank you so much for that beautiful picture.
I can't wait until the plant arrives and I'll plant all those seeds too!
Maybe a couple will grow.I had Christmas come early today Adagirl1 sent me some beautiful Brug cuttings and so many pretty plants and starts.
I get to do more dirt digging tommorow, got to find just the right place for her pretties.
Yoikes !
Hope yur not planting the tropical brugs outside =)
Oh no dear she also sent some perenials Brugs all live in the house for winter.
