#10 - It takes you three hours to bring all the hoya inside before the "blue norther" arrives...and all you want for Christmas is H. sp Phillipines...yo Carol, get one ready for me!
The wood for my greenhouse is stacked under the carport. Rain or shine we frame on Saturday. I attached a photo showing about 50% of my hoya collection. The plant hangers are garment racks picked up for $10.00 each at a local department store. They had them outside with "for sale" signs as they were replacing the old garment racks with new. What a find! I call them the Eames line of Hoya hangers. The more cold hardy are still outside; H. globulosa, H. bella, H. austrailis "Silver Valley",and the large pots of H. pubicalyx Pink Silver. There's more still in the laundry room and the "babies" are on shelves.
Anyone want to try #9?
10 signs you might be a hoyaholic
GREAT Hoya Hangers - NB...you clever girl!!!
Please post pics of the Greenhouse!!!! I know how you have been awaiting this!!
Congrats!
Aloha, Carol
Night Bloomer 54...very nice looking plants.... you have a large collection.
Hey, David...show your window full of plants... hehehehe #9 is that all your windows have hoyas hanging in them!
Carol
#8 You move another chair to the garage and bring in another shelf for the plants!!
#7 You decide that buying potting soil, more Hoyas, pots, plant stands (for the Hoyas) is more important than buying cute clothes!
Night bloomer, How big will your GH be? I predict that no matter how big it is your Hoyas will outgrow it within a year!
If your'e like me, it will be full as soon as you finish it!
#6 Everytime you take a walk through the park, you notice all plants that have "hoya like" leaves.
Marcy
Yes Carol its my window full of hoyas.... :)
#5 all the potting soil, coir, fertilizer, pots, more hoyas, and plant stands cost more each month than your food budget so it's a good thing you actually like boxed mac-n-cheese.
You sleep with the remote sensor, so you can check the temp in the greenhouse to make sure your hoya-babies are nice and warm, and you wake up several times per night to check. My hubby just shakes his head each night when I do this:-)
Blessings,
Awanda
my hoya plants
My burning question is how long it takes to water those babies?.....great looking plants, something to strive for!
Sandy
David - I am humbled!!! WOW! Ok, I don't have it as bad as I thought. Maybe there are degrees of hoya-holism!
Marcy - I have #6 syndrome as well. If I see hanging baskets while driving past someone's house I am always tempted to pull up and look. I have turned around and driven past s-l-ow-l-y to make sure.
I am laughing at these! Awanda must not have a teenager! I sleep with the cordless phone in my hand....but with the greenhouse going up this weekend I may get a chance yet to add a remote!
Keep this going! I think we are on #3!
Will post photo's of the GH progress on Sunday night. You're right Lesli, it's not going to be big enough. DH kept moving my lines back. 10x16 with 8ft walls.
We will have to compile all of these into one list and post it somewhere!
Thanks for the responses and the laughs of the day..
Susan
Nightbloomer, is the one on the couch for trade?
#3? Arriving home from a long trip away...out of the country...the first thing you ask is "How are my Hoyas?" and the first thing you do when you get home is run out to check the moisture in the pots, for bugs and to see about blooms? ;~) aaannnndddd...you think nothing of starting to repot, water or spray! LOL
I have walls.....& Hoya cembra is blooming! Yeah, the buds didn't blast. Lovely scent. Clean and lemony.
Now we are in for a week of rain but the night time temperatures are back in the 60's again so the hoya are making a slow migration back outdoors.
Hopefully by the weekend after Thanksgiving we will be putting the polycarbonate on the outside.
Progress!!!!
Isn't H. cembra devine?...I always think of a good French Perfume...like Chanel #5. Mine is blooming too! Maybe she likes the coolness/temperature fluctuations!
Can't wait to see more progress!!! and then you will be talking about another/bigger one...just too easy to fill up!
Aloha
Congrats on the progress!
I just reroofed my 8x16 room (had used poly on it that leaked). I chose a white colored polycarbonite siding to avoid dealing with shade cloths. I think it blocks 75% of the suns rays, I like it! My smaller
8x10 room had clear siding on the roof, which sunburnt everything exept the eriostemma clan. I used blue siding on it which lets in more light than the white but so far seems OK. I am still reorganizing things after having to cram everything in out of the great outdoors!
