Hibiscus Question..

Bryson, QC(Zone 4a)

I just received Trionum Hibiscus seeds and was wondering how I would go about planting these..Never done these before.
Greatly, appreciated.

Hi Ingrid, I'm definitely not an expert on hibiscus, or anything else for that matter but I have grown hibiscus from seed and it is quite easy. Looking at your cold zone, I would suggest sowing them in January in your house and putting out after your first frost. I don't know if the one you mention is hardy or tropical. I hope this helps. Hopefully someone will come along that knows a whole lot more than I do :-)

ingrid i have the best results by soaking the seed in warm water for 24 hours. not hot but luke warm.
this means maintain a luke warm temp on the water. i always but mine in a bowl on the heater in the winter and in the summer i use one of those mini crock pots for potpourri. works great! another place is on top of the hot water heater.
the seeds always seem to germinate within 48 hours after i soak them. otherwise it takes them days sometimes weeks. once i forgot about the seeds for a few days and when i remembered them they had almost all germinated in the bowl of warm water :)

then i simple place them in damp potting soil and cover with about an 1/16" of potting soil and water lightly.
others may have a better plan or willing to share what works best for them.
good luck!
