Have Arborea seeds

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I have to bring this offer to a close because I'm afraid there won't be enough seeds to go around. I will post again if I have any left overs...

Sue, I would like some too.

Thanks,

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes... that was cleared up several months ago on this forum ;-). I got mine from Susie... who got hers from JT. JT got his originally from Tonny as 'Ida'...

However, the babies won't be 'Ida'..... they will be geneticly different. I imagine they'll look pretty close tho.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

So was Tonny's a hybrid Arborea or a true Arborea just renamed? And if yours is self pollinated why wouldn't it be genetically the same as its mother Ida? Confused people want to know. LOL Thanks PoppySue!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Kell, is there one that you DON'T have? Beautiful picture, are those roses in the background. I would love to have the real 'Ida', I'll try JT to see if he has it.

May I have a packet, please?
I got your address from the Address Exchange. Say the word and an SASBE will be in the mail today!

LOL - yur asking the wrong girl, Kell. As far as I know (and I'm sure Tonny will correct me if I'm wrong) ... Tonny's 'Ida' plant is a hybrid between 2 different abroea parents... he liked the way this seedling performed and held up in the heat so he decided to name her.

The only way to obtain true 'Ida' plants is from vegetative propagation... cuttings and/or division. Seedlings from the plant, whether they're selfed or pollinated from another plant will still be genetically different. I would expect them to look pretty much the same... but the plants may perform differently, bloom less or more, ... handle heat and cold temps differently, ... grow at a different pace... or whatever. They'll still be aborea babies but they won't be Ida.

Sue
I'd like a few if you have any left
I'd like to grow some to cross to my Arborea

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I was thinking the same thing,I just started your seeds CC.

You are right, Sue :) Kelley, Ida is b. arborea x B. arborea and a cross between two seed grown plants. Seedling 1 came from a seed sample of Nijmegen Botinical Garden. The second seedling was one of two seedlings, that I got from Paul Hansen in Tersløse adjacent to Sorø.

I'm shocked at the response here ;o) I had to close the offer to any more request just to make sure there are enough seeds for everyone. I stated earlier in my post I'd package 6 seeds per pack... but I think I will need to change that to 5 seeds per pack just to make sure everyone gets a package. I hope that understandable.

I think I've e-mailed everyone that has replied so far. If you haven't heard from me give me a yell....

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I just cannot get over all of you taking on projects like this, I don't know how in the world you keep it all straight. But, I'm impressed and sincerely appreciate the opportunity to participate. Thanks, Sue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Sue...I got my SASE returned to me today! I didn't put enough postage on it. I had weighed it and it came to less then one ounce so I only put a 37 cent stamp on it. Today it came back asking for 12 cents more because it had to be hand stamped. It will be going back out tomorrow!

Hi Sue, thank you so much for the seeds. These outer "shells?" seem to be coming off. Am I suppose to peel them? Is it the inner small piece that germinates? You probably are really laughing but this is the first time I have dealt with Brugs.

Jeanette

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sounds like you are doing great Jeanette. Yes, the little bean inside the cork is what grows. I'm sure Sue will get back to you when she can. Just didn't want you to worry about your seeds. You can peel them if you like or plant them as they are. Works either way.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the help Shirley, I really don't want to mess these up. Jeanette.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Hi Sue, got mine today. I'll start them after the holidays. Thanks so much, LindaSC
