Another nana bloom

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I just noticed this yesterday. It's my Ice Cream banana. I was afraid it wouldn't bloom for a while since I cut a lot of it's lower leaves off because they were sticking out over the pool deck, but it doesn't seem to have slowed it down.

Cala,congrats to you!
Mine is under the house with a stem about 10 ft tall.
How tall is yours, now that the bloom has emerged?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It's taller than me. I'd say the pseudostem is 8ft, maybe more.

Congrats Cala!!!! Wish I could get a nana to bloom.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

My bananas are at the local greenhouse for the winter, so I'm hoping to see blooms before too long. Does this one produce edible bananas?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugie, that should work. I sure hope you get yours to bloom. This one is supposed to taste like vanilla ice cream.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

OMG, that would be wonderful. I've still got tons of banana seeds that I need to get planted. Maybe this weekend I'll find the time and the room. LOL! Thanks....hope you get lots of bananas from her.

I looked this morning, no flowers have opened yet so no little bananas. It shouldn't be long though.

OK
you guys grow them out and I'll be the taste tester.....

Cala,
Is that a Tennessee nana? Seems I remember one like that by the pool!

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Cala,
How old is your banana plant? I just bought one of those and it's only 6" tall--just a baby. Can't wait until it's large like yours!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Mel, this is the baby that you gave me last year! It's grown a bit hasn't it?
Emily, not sure how old it is, it's a pup given to me by Mel, and I'm guessing two years old?
CC, come on down, the Dwarf Cavendish should be ripe in March and these in April or May.

Knoxville, TN

I guess it is not a Tenn. nana anymore. I am glad it is doing so well for you! You need to come get the nana you used to try and steal when you came to visit or I am going to have to cut a hole in the ceiling!

I told ya to put that puppy in a box and bring it to me when you fly down for vacation!!! Hey, Bill goes thru Knoxville(he was there Sunday almost all day at Gary's) and he could pick it up for me if he would.

Here are the baby nanas. Two or three bunches so far.

Tell Bill to come on by here, Suz. Tis the season to send plants to Texas! I can see Bills face now when I show him the plant! He would give me that dizzy blonde look!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh yeah, he's gonna love me!! He said he was going to stop and buy a Christmas tree(a real one, a fraiser fir) and bring it to me so the nana shouldn't take up any more room should it?

Here is a better close up of the flowers. It had 4 hands of nanas this morning and the honey bees were loving the flowers. They were all over it. The actual flowers are pink.

What great pictures. Just beautiful! And what a sky!

Thanks Kell. That was early this morning, around 7 or 7:30. It's a beautiful day on the mainland, but I got rained on on the Island and it was so humid there.
