Where do you get your Episcia?

in Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

What is the price range for these plants? I don't have any presently ,but I am interested in starting a collecting. I don't know much about them . I have grown african violets before, and started them from leaves. Can you tell me more about them ?
Thanks,
Pattti

Well, they are great companion plants for AVs. They can take a bit more drying out than AVs and light-wise, some episcias like less and others like more. They are primarily grown for foliage, although some people like the flowers. The leaves can be any mix of pink, green, bronze and some other colors, and some have a lovely shimmery look. Flowers are generally orange, although there are a few that have blue, white, yellow, and two-colored flowers. They are propagated very easly by rooting the stolons - stolons are little plantlets that form on runners. Thus, for buying and trading, you can often get either rooted or unrooted stolons.

Speaking of which, I have a few extra rooted ones that I could send for postage - if you are interested, send me mail.

Most place you can buy them from Vendors for about $4.00. But with the ease of growing it is easy to get a plant or stolen from a friend or maybe two :))
Gary's out of Africa not only sells Streps at great low prices and they are good size plants and also sells Episcia.
I am going to put the ones I have for trade / or share for posting on my list I'm working on.
