Newbie Canna question?

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

Due to a variety of circumstances, (hosta coop, premature granddaughter, etc) the snow arrived before I dug the canna and calla bulbs that I planted this spring. The ground isn't frozen, but the snow sure did kill the foliage. Is it too late to dig them? I know I can dig, I just don't want to give myself a backache if I have already blown it?

You are probably OK to dig up. If the ground isn't frozen it probably didn't do too much damage to the bulbs - so dig them up before it is too late!

Most of us in cooler zones dig them up and store them after a frost has zapped them back. If you dig them up and they are still firm and not mushy, you should be good to go.

Congrats on that new grandbaby.

Thanks. I'm just beginning to catch my breath and figure out how far behind I really am!
