B - I just planted them in my herb pot for winter - cross your fingers that they take off for me. I'm having the darnedest time getting things started this season! (I think I'm doing too much and not concentrating enough - oops! Maybe when things settle down a bit I'll get into the swing of things!) Did you get your Mrs. Burns' Lemon Basil, ok?

Kathy - Good luck growing this - it's supposed to smell awesome!

Willits, CA(Zone 8a)

I did get the lemon basil. Thanks!
I'm going to have an awesome Basil bed next year thanks to all these great trades!

The licorice basil does have a great smell but we had a hard time finding the right ingredients to put with it as we use basil mostly for cooking. I've read that it is great for crafts...I'm going to grow it in pots because it's really pretty.
Dark Maroon stems and veins in green leaves. The flowers are a pink/lavender color. Plus it smells great!
Anyway, those are my plans for it.

A friend of mine puts sprigs of it in her Sambuco glasses when she serves it! I had a tiny batch (from her) once and I used it in tea. Unfortunately, I left it in the window last winter, with the Banana mint and the Chocolate mint and when my %$#%$# toaster didn't pop and the kitchen filled with smoke I opened the window, then forgot to close it - poor babies got wiped out! They DO NOT like temps in the 20's!

Willits, CA(Zone 8a)

No they don't.
I just went out a pulled all mine out of the garden....shriveled up and dead.
We had temps down to 28 all last week so I spent the weekend cleaning out the frozen remains of my veggie garden...where the basil had been planted. When I pulled up the licorice basil stems they still smelled good.
I have some sweet basil in pots...outside on the steps and they're still looking fine...I wonder why....it was 28 on the steps too!
Then, to add insult to injury.....it's been in the 40's all this week...45 this morning.

Thanks for helping me out there Sequee!

Can't wait to grow some of this licorice basil, I love aromatic plants/flowers!

Licorice basil....ummmm. I bet it would make great tea. Has anyone ever tried?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

It's great in tea - works fabulously for a sore throat and clearing your sinuses!

Fenton, MO(Zone 5b)

Clearing up the sinuses? Theres something I can use!

Willits, CA(Zone 8a)

Never thought of using it in tea. I bet that would be tasty.
How many other things can you do with Basil? I'm not too creative...only use it in cooking.
