Abutilon dormant?

PNW, WA(Zone 8a)

I have a rather large one of these...Not sure which but it's just a nice orange color. It's not hardy here and I've been trying it indoors but It's losing leaves pretty consistantly. I'm afriad it's not getting enough light near the slider. I'm wondering if I can put it in a cool dark room and if it will go dormant for the winter and come back when spring arives? Anyone have any experiennce with this or is it just a gonner?

Hi Robinz,
It's probably the shock of bringing it in and the difference of humidity making it drop leaves, especially if you dug it and was established well. If the root system is not too damaged, it should store dormant ..or revive fine.
My guess it would over winter in your zone with good mulch ..and back from its roots in spring. You might want to experiement down the line to see if you can overwinter in the ground. Abutilons are hardier than given credit for (o:
