The Butterfly and the Leopard

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

This poor gigantea (you can seee it lurking under there) had to send its bloom up 5' to get over the butterfly above it. Looks a bit out of place. Lol. I guess I should have planted it under a white brug instead. It will really clash as the flowers darken.

It'll look just fine. Is that black eyed susan vine in there too?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Yep. Here is the whole scene (sorry about the glare.)
This was the most pitiful susie. She almost got the yank. It is only 1 plant. It has quite the trunk now.

Do you have a pic of your blooming gigantea? I think I have seen a yellow spotted one around here that looks so intriguing!

Don't you just love Butterfly? So pretty!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Uh kell, the gigantea is right there under the brug with the big round leaves. That is its flower that is coming up through the brug. I have another slightly smaller plant in my front yard that is about to bloom and i will post pic of that one (You will be able to see it all Lol) in Tropical forum as soon as the flowers open. I like the spotted ones too but the size leaves that the gigantea get when mature is just fun. I am going to use them for birdbath molds this summer.

Yes! Butterfly is my favorite! She is a beauty.

Beautiful pictures frogs , My kinda garden .

There are lots of Gigantea's that come up in a search. What is this plant with the beautiful leaves? I'm sure it must be a tropical. I love the look of the leaves and the bloom is cheery too.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

OH.........the yellow daisy like blooms are from it? I love those leaves also!!

Brugie,
This is my gigantea . The plant came with the farm and I only ID'd it last year by accident while surfing.
Looks like it is a different type tho.

Yes, it does look different. Cool plant. I just really like the leaves on the one Janice has.

Now I know why no one got the joke!!

Mine is a giant leopard plant, farfugium japonicum. It is a beauty isn't it? I swiped 2 from a friends yard last winter. SHE WAS GOING TO COMPOST THEM!! Couldn't have that. I am thrilled that they bloomed so quickly. It will take a while before mine have enough root system to divide.

Scooterbug, I really like the look of your gigantea too.

Frogs, I can't BELIEVE you almost yanked out that gorgeous susie vine! Wow she's a pretty one! :-) I'm going to put one of those in our kids garden in the spring. I'm afraid if I put one in now, despite our mild weather now, it wouldn't survive the wet winter. They sure are a happy-inducing sight! :-)

frogs,
Think about this maybe for some winter time entertainment .................

Just me here to tell you that I love the name of your thread.
Everytime I flash past I , I get a picture in my head.
That coud be the name of a good book or movie.
Maybe you could start a thread somewhere (?) name it
" The Butterfly & The Leopard -The Story".
Then we could start building a story, these folks here are good at this kind of thing.

Just a thought =)

Shall we wait till ya"ll are hip deep in snow? Sounds like fun. Maybe we can just leave it on this forum and ask Dave to put a sticky on it.

I think it may indeed be time. You want to ask Dave about the sticky or shall I? I am headed to the beach today (ducking frog) so am signing off for probably the rest of the day today. Once upon a time far, far away and long, long ago.......... lol.

I put a watch on this thread - I was intrigued with the title of the thread. What is the 'sticky' about?? Whatever, I'm set to go!!
