I went to the Victoria Lily Society 2004 bulb sale, looking for the Pardelinum for Inanda. They didn't have any, but they said they have lots. Inanda, I will be sending you an email on how to contact the guy that has them. I've attached a copy of the flyer they had showing what they did have. They looked lovely.
I didn't get any, I'm nuts about brugmansias, just like they were nuts about lilies. Every one has a preference I guess.

Lilies
Thanks for the interesting post. I like a few lilies cause I have lots of space but I'm actually a daylily nut myself, closely followed by Irises. Hey maybe we should start a thread where everyone can tell What they are nuts about!
I don't think we can grow brugs out here since I've never seen any before finding this website. Are they vines?
Thanks very much Linda for taking the time to go, especially as you didn't buy anything.
Was it Walter with the grey ponytail that grows pardelinum?
This might be a repeat message as something happened to my first response.
Inanda
Songbird: Brugmansias are either shrubs or trees. They can be grown there I would think, but they'd most definitely have to be brought into the warmth in the winter. They are tropicals. They come in white, yellow, pink, orange, singles and doubles. You can see lots of photos of mine, by going to webshots.com and looking me up, my username there is lindawre.
Inanda: Walter did have grey hair, but I didn't notice a pony tail. Also had glasses. All present were most enthuseastic (sp) about lilies. I didn't mention they were for you by name. Maybe it would've got me (us) somewhere!.
Not to worry about me going and not buying anything, it was nice to go out there, and we stopped at Cannors on the way back. It's chilly and wet today, so we didn't stay out long.

Chilly and wet here today too. Supposed to clear tommorrow, and be sunny and 11 C on Monday. I finally got my Wilt Pruf in the mail the other day. It was probably sitting in a Vancouver Postal Warehouse for the better part of a month. But that's OK, at least I can still use it on my Roses, Hydrangeas and Rhodys before it gets any colder. It has to be applied in at least 40F. Whew!
Linda, I am gonna have to look up your Brugs on Webshots. I have Webshots installed on my computer and it supplies my backgrounds and screensavers each day. (Much to the chagrin of my service technician :(
Songbird, I think Lynn (Jargonjune) and Pam (Lilypon) both grow Brugs ( if I'm not mistaken) and I received some Brug cuttings from a friend who lives in Southern Alberta, and she has 3 or 4 different varieties. Just as long as you bring them in for the winter as Linda said, you shouldn't have any problem.
Sorry Songbird I didn't see your question.....Donna is right both Lynn and I grow them. They are a tropical bush/tree and you can see many varieties at: http://www.americanbrugmansia-daturasociety.org/
There is also the Brugmansia and Friends forum: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/brugsetc/
and our Liz's site is one you should take a look at : http://www.brugmansiasetc.com She is the premier Canadian supplier of Brugmansias.
Thanks for the info. I will check out the links and I am on webshots too. My handle there is songbirdbeanie. I have mostly pets & flowers up there. For some reason they don't offer brugs at our local greenhouses. I know cause I scoured them thoroughly this year. I planted 181 different plants this year.
You need to make a trip to ;the frozen north of our province in the spring for plant shopping. Should have some cuttings rooted by then.
Jagonjune your Brug person, too? I thought I was daring trying the Butterfly Bush. Thing is I don't have room for anything inside the house. I'd love to see some though so I can see what the big deal is about. I've seen picxtures but they usually only show the blossom.
Putting myself right out there, open for attack, I'm going to state that while brug blossoms are to-die-for, the plants are not attractive specimens for most of the year. Here is a picture of one taken in the English Gardens of Assiniboine Park in Wpg. Towards the end of June. I you don't have to bring them in for the winter they must look a lot better.
Songbird, I envy you your Butterfly Bush. I'd love to have one. where did you get yours and how are you growing it. Got any photos?
I hadn't heard of Brugs either until I joined DG. I am originally from Alberta too, and you just didn't hear or see them there. But now I'm fully addicted and have a very healthy pink Isabella plant growing, that should bloom next summer and 3 little babies, two whites and a yellow that are doing really well too. They grow very quickly! So even though I've never had a bloom of my own yet, I go to the Brugmansia & Friends forum and Liz's Brugmansias Etc. website and drool and dream. I'm gonna buy another one next spring if Liz will sell it to me, called Peach Chiffon, and someday I aspire to own a double pink like Brugie's "Day Dreams". Sigh...
echoes, no need to worry here, we now that the brugs are supposed to go dormant over the winter. They do get very sad looking. But when they bloom, THEY SHINE! I started about 30 seeds yesterday, and have many more still one the plants, not quite ripe yet.
A close friend of mine gave me a cutting of a epiphyllum, if you ask me, that plant is ugly every day of the year, except for the few it blooms. Mine had a lovely reddy pink flower ont it, and it was gorgeous.
It's great that we all have our own favourites. It'd be boring if we all were after the same thing. Variety is good!.

I couldn't find a picture of my pink epi, so here is her white one that we plant sat.
Note the 'brug blossoms are to-die-for'. I love em too, but have no discreet place to keep them for the other ten months of the year. Am really wondering abput the epis too. May have a big red one for give away. How do you spell discrete anyway?
Brenda
We knew what you meant Brenda. It isn't the prettiest plant going, but it's what we know it can produce that keeps all of us, even you, big fans of their lovely blooms. :D
Brenda, you gotta try to get to the round up, we need your sense of humour. It should be a great time.
Linda
Trust me, sometimes it goes AWOL.
oldflowergirl - don't envy my butterfly bush just yet! I bought it this fall and put it in. I won't know if it's going to live until spring rolls around now. It is has been mulched since I planted it and I will be covering it right up with mulch soon. I expect it to die back to the ground but read that it will grow back up in the spring. Cross your fingers with me instead!
Thanks for the picture, echoes, I can see why that's not so popular here! Now if I lived in B.C......
that epi is pretty interesting, too!
Thanks, I'll keep you posted on it's progress!
I wonder if there is a market for mini storage for plants????
Plant sitting?
Sort of like my arrangement for my brugs this year but allowing for the dormancy so it wouldn't be as expensive to operate as a true green house.
Songbird, I have to confess to you that I Boo Boo'd, big time! You mentioned earlier in this thread that you were going to try and grow Butterfly Bush and I gushed away about not believing that we could grow that here. Can you believe, I was talking (gushing) about the wrong plant!! I happened accross, a picture of a Butterfly "Bush" and then I remembered what that was! I have no doubt you can grow in Alberta. I have seen them growing in BC, so you should have no problem. What I was thinking of is a "Clerodendrum Ugandense" which is sometimes called the Blue Butterfly Flower and I saw a photo of it here on DG several weeks ago and drooled all over the place, but it mentioned that it was a "Tropical" hardy to Zones 9-11. Figures...Donna mutters to herself, "I will not have zone envy, I will not have zone envy, I will not..."
Pam has that one Donna - she lives in the only zone 9 patch in Saskatchewan LOL
LOL. Pam, where are ya girl? We miss you. Still busy with your folks and stuff, I expect. So you have the lovely Clerodendrum Ugandense. Do tell me about your experience and how you over-winter it? I was able to finally locate a supplier, that being Plants of Perfection. I bet that's were you got yours, 'cause I know you have dealt with Cristina several times. But, Lo and Behold, Liz stepped up and announced she has one for me, growing, as we type, in her greenhouse. She has graciously offered to bring me one to Victoria. Whoo Hoo! I am soooo happy.
I have one Blue Butterfly Bush (Clerodendrum ugandese). Fast-growing, pretty flowers, over-wintering just like Glory Bower (Clerodendrum thomsonaei). I make lots of babies, available at:
http://floraexotica.ca/Flower-BlueButterfly.htm
This is a tropical plant, which continues to grow indoor, given enough sunlight and water.
Thanks Perry, Gorgeous website. Makes me want all those pretty plants. The Mimosa calls to me...buy me, buy me... So does the Lotus, but I keep whispering back to it... you're too expensive, too expensive... :) .
Are you coming to Victoria, April 1, Perry? It would be great to meet you.

My home 'puter has problems. Screen on monitor goes red at reboot and the windows page has psychedelic colors. AVG caught one trojan virus and I did a heal and cleaned up all the pop ups and then I caught another trojan. :( My puter's acting really strange now.....maybe I removed something I shouldn't have???
Donna I do have C. Ugandense......it's sitting in the dining room in front of the window. I picked mine up in Regina and it wasn't cheap (bush size) but I love it and think it was worth every penny. ;)
Lovely website. When in the spring do you start to ship to our arctic regions.
