I was wandering around the garden taking photos of leaves...and thought this picture of H. pubicalyx 'Royal Hawaiian Purple' was interesting. These three leaves are next to eachother...and look how different the mottling is. I was amazed. It would be hard to describe this hoya as having heavy mottling...or light mottling. Leaves are so fickle!!! LOL
Difference in Leaves
Which is which? The reason I ask is I just started using "Florescent Lights" since it stared to get cooler and less light I thought it might be a good time to move my Hoyas in. I haven't seen a change yet. Binky :))))))))
These H. pubicalyx Fresno Beauty starts are new to my collection. The grower I purchased from took cuttings from her large plant which had been out in the sun this summer. The red tinge on the leaves is the result of the lovely months outdoors. I rooted from her cuttings. The plant on the right came as a small rooted start. I always keep a close eye on everything new. I have a shelf above my kitchen sink with an overhead florescent light. It seems to be the perfect place for rooting ( I always root in water with SuperThrive) and watching my new starts. I bet the humidity from the constant water running in the sink also helps. I have never lost a new start or failed to root a cutting I've started there. I wish my RHP would produce some foliage color changes like Carol's.
Cheers,
Susan
Thanks Susan, It get so hot here in the summer 105 - 110, that I never put them in the full sun. But they sure are pretty. Maybe next year I will try one. My light is over one of my kitchen counters. And I think they make the kitchen look so pretty. I also have 5 hoyas setting by my kitchen sink window. I hope that they will do good there also. Only time will tell . LOL Binky :))))))
I have a huge pot of 'Fresno Beauty' these I can share, would anyone want to trade. I'm willing to give three cuttings to one of yours for the trade. Norma
