I have never seen a Hibiscus that colour, it's beautiful, how old is the plant. Another one to add to the list...
Thanks for sharing

Lazy,

I just got that plant in the Spring so it is not very large, but it is blooming!

That is a beautiful bloom! I am crazy for lavender and purples.
The ones I see locally are only red and yellow.

thank you for sharing. what a beautiful plant. i have a couple of those now in gallon containers. leaves are turning yellow and falling off! is that normal? i'm not much of a gardener, obviously. right now, they are indoors (window sill) where they can get the most sun. please advise. thanks.

Moonglow,
They are so touchy to pout. I have read that you shouldn't even turn them more than a quarter of a turn at a time. Anytime you move them they will drop leaves.

I am kinda rough on mine here in Iowa. Have them outside in the summer where the wind, rain, hail beats them up. Then drag them in to my sunny south window to overwinter. I fertilize year round (low middle number) and they bloom better in the winter for me than when they are out it the elements.
I do have to watch for aphids.

The hibiscus at my Orange County home are in the ground year round. When it gets a little cool there they do go dormant but the weather can be so variable from one year to the next they are always blooming. These will get aphids too. I have started using Bayer Systemic.

Thank you for taking the time to write, TLC. Of course AFTER I have already turned my hibiscus plants I read your reply and found that hibiscus caution also! Sure enough, the buds fell off. This is what's left of my "Blue Bayou" - - - 14" tall.

Here's a before shot: http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/579ba/#TL

OC in Southern California? San Diego is my hometown...I bet it's easier to grow hibiscus plants there.

Moon,
I lived in Southern California for 26 years and was NOT a gardener; took tropical hibiscus for granted. Now I work very hard to grow them in Iowa and at the home in Orange, they take care of themselves.

Blue Bayou is not my favorite but I really like the picture you took of yours. Would you consider posting it in the Plant Data Base. Your picture is enchanting.

That's the sweetest thing someone had said about that photo. Many thanks! I will post it gladly. I have to find the file first.
