Looking for transparent pots for seedlings

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Do any of you know a source for transparent flowerpots? I know they exist, I just can't find them. I want to grow my brug cuttings in transparent pots. I am potting the newly rooted ones in plastic drinking cups - but in a few months when they need 6 or 8" pots I would like to find those clear ones so I can see the roots. I KNOW I saw someone's post on DG that had a link to where to buy them, but can't for the life of me find it in a search. Any memories better than mine out there?

Diane I have some I had ordered and are not what I was wanting. They are milky clear. They are yours for postage if you want them. I think they are like 2" square x 3 or 4" tall?? Let me know. I'll see how many I have or if I still have them but I am pretty sure I do. I don't throw anything like that away.

Went out and found them they are 2 1/4" square and 3 1/4" tall and I have 40 of them.

Diane, I used to get milky clear pots like Donna has from Charley's Greenhouse.

But I would take Donna up on her offer.

Diane, I purchased the 4" plastic pots on Ebay. 50 for $6.25, I think. They are what I am putting my 4 leaf seedlings in and I can already see the roots spreading. I really like these . . no more guessing. When the roots completely fill out in these pots, they will be ready for a gallon pot. These pots are 4" across the top and about 3 1/2 inches tall. If you want the link, email me.

Thanks all - and yeah, Donna - you're supposed to be resting! LOL Thanks for the offer - just email me the cost for postage - I will use the small ones for my seedlings. I love being able to see the roots and also judge if the soil is dry farther down in the pot - really helps to make sure you are not under or over watering.

BrugNanny you have mail.

:-)

I'll let you know when I ship them Diane. E-mail me you addy again

KRNYSGIRL........I also like the fact that you can see if the soil is wet down towards the bottom.

You have mail!

If you can't find what you are looking for, I cut my apple juice pottles off wherever I need them. Some I put holes in for planting "starter" plants, they are 4 inches or there abouts, and others I cut off higher up and no holes so they are nice for rooting.

Either way you can see what is going on in there.

if you have a Dollar store near you, they have LARGE almost clear plastic cups 5 for a $1 I have started several of my seedlings in those, when your ready to upgrade to a larger planter they come out easily, and can be reused

Is the purpose of the see through cups to see if the plants have rooted? My question is: do they get roots before new growth??

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

sherry...I have gotten new growth before any visible roots before! So, I think the answer to your question is no.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Sherry - the reason I like the transparent pots is so I can judge the level of moisture in the soil deeper down in the pot - when you water the plant you see the water penetrating and darkening the soil all the way down- so you know when you have watered sufficiently and it keeps you from over-watering. And of course - you can also easily see when the pot becomes rootbound because the roots are visible. :-)

Thanks, Margie & Diane!! I'm one of those that over waters, then make them beg for a drink. Transparent pots might be just what I need...

KRNYSGIRL,
I bought clear cake containers from my grocery store for $.32 ea. They have tops too. The containers are for their biggest cakes. I am using them as communal pots with virmiculite to root brugs. I either label the whole container or label the cuttings individually. I've been doing this less than a month, and some already have great roots. I will move them up to small black pots. Then where will I put them? LOL

go to ebay, click on the house and garden link, then put this number in the search for clear plasic pots, the 4" size are 50 for $6.50 they have several different sizes, also some in color
