I finally got my camera to work. Some of these flowers are a little tired, but I thought I would post them. A few of you may have one of these from the mixed gessie box. In case I mislabeled something, you can double-check here. LOL.
The first is Rob's Cotton Ball. It is in a 4" pot.
a few AVs
Ooh, beautiful pictures! I didn't know Humpty Doo is a trailer. I'm excited to watch mine grow, too. I have a bunch of mini AV leaves rooting now, mostlly Rob's. So much fun and so addictive!

These are very pretty. I really love the cotton ball.
WOW just came across Keyrings beauties :)) Keyring do you have any of Neptune's Jewels's suckers she's a great Chimera :)) Your lucky to have a Chimera that wants to sucker all the time !!
Wow! Neptune's Jewels is on my "wish list." Ditto what Allison says--plant those suckers! :) Beautiful plants (as always).
Key, do you use a black drape behind your photos or do you add it digitally?
Key, can you get shots of the strep parents we have seeds for? Are they blooming?
Wow, the variegation on those new leaves is just amazing, Kenton! Is that plant under lights on top of your fish tank?
It was under those lights until a week ago, now it is under (hopefully even better) lights in a new fixture. The new ones are advertized as "Natural Light: Full spectrum" ($6, I think) or somesuch thing. Ironically, A test I did shows these to be preferable over the twice-the-price "Ott-Lite" plant bulbs. ($11, again, I think.) I will do yet more testing to confirm this.
Jill, what is your favorite size of pot that you use for AVs?
Kenton
4" pots for standards, 2" for minis and smaller semi-minis and for young plants of standard varieties.
I have a couple of larger standards in 6 inch self-watering containers, and they have become "show plant" huge -- like 14 to 16 inches across or more, depending on how recently I've removed a row or two of leaves.
I just got a mess of 1 inch (ht & diam) plastic condiment cups that I holed for drainage, and I'm really liking them for little plantlets and leaves.
well.... mkjones is now the owner of Neptune http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/562385/, so send your sucker requests thataway.... I don't think it ever suckered while I had it, though, which is why I tried propagating from a leaf - and got that lovely purple reversion.
The black backdrop - I use black velvet. But.... I think these photos may have been taken with large sheet of black paper in the back, and then darkened by photoshop. The velvet is better by far ;-)
Speaking of pot sizes, I use 4" rounds for compact standards, 6" for standards, and 2.5" for regular non-trailing minis.
I use lots of one inch pots :)) Love those tiny minis...Miniatures all in 2 inch and babies until they are 6 or more inches across they go to 2.50 or 3 " .
Even Rob's says never us a pot larger than 2.50 for minis/semis :)) I use the 1/3 rule the pot should be one thrid the size of the plant. I use lots of 5 " pan pots. My 18 inch across Chirtia is really happy in her's along with my Strps and Epsicas !
Standards are in 4 Inch if their root system can hold it.I buy 2 " by the 500 hundreds and use them like water. lol
Kenton I thought the first time I saw your plant it was gorgeous...Oh my when I saw it this time I was like OH MY GODDNESS... I said GOD but I guess it's ok he helped. I like those lights I think it may be like the ones I buy. But the plant sure loves it. It may have like the fish drink too ! Greatest growing Kenton just super WOW !
Oh shucks Keyring when you posted up there with
'Neptune's Jewel's' picture it has a nasty habit of suckering was hoping you had some. A Chimeria's owners dream sucker habitiing Chimera Yeah ! So you gave it away. ? You take the prettiest picture.
