this is what the leaves on my plant look like. Sorry the pic is not the best but I will be the first to admit tha I am no pro photographer.
????H. Phyllura
Did this plant come from the nursery in plastic clay colored hanging pot with a peach colored label (or Witts nursery in Fla)?
If so, I think it is Hoya cinnamomifolia. I found one a few years ago labeled
H. phyllura from Pike Nursery it was a Witts plant, when it bloomed it proved to be cinnamomifolia.
Lesli,
I live in Murrells Inlet,S.C.. We have a local nursery named True Blue that is located just across the highway from my job. I visit them once or twice a month to see what if anyting new they may have. This is where I bought the hoya in question spring of last year.
You guessed it right though, the plant originated at Witt's nursery in Florida. Witts frequents this area every other month or so to distribute some of their plants and this was one of them.
I have a nice cinimomifolia rooted cutting that Mel sent to me but it never crossed my mind to compare the foliage with this plant to any that she sent me.
When I go back into the gh i'll check first thing to see if they match.
Thanks for the helpful info and i'll be looking forward to seeing this plant bloom so I can hopefully find out for sure what it is.
That is a beautiful, healthy and happy looking plant, whatever it is. It does look like the leaves of my cinimomifloia, except mine isn't near that lush looking. Good growin!
Marcy
Lesli beat me to it! I was going to tell you that I got that same plant from Witt's garden this year, she called it phyllura but when I got it, I knew it wasn't. Your's looks like it has grown very well! Mine hasn't grown one leaf since I got it around early spring this year!
Raven
If the vines are really really REALLY strong and get impossible to train once they are past the infant stage...that sounds like it. However...it looks like it could also be one of the H. pottsii. Only a bloom will tell...but...WOW...what a beautiful plant!
Carol, I know this isn't 100% sure but this is from the same grower that Barb in SC and I sent you cuttings of & you bloomed. Witts is pretty reliable when it comes to the way they label the plants.... they aren't all right but very consistant. Catsmeow lives VERY close to Barb as well, she's in Myrtle Beach! When I met her for lunch back when we ate seafood at a place in
Murrels Inlet.... NICE AREA!
Oh, OK...yes the cutting you sent me is H. cinnamomifolia... Thanks for reminding me... :o).
Carol
Raven,
when I got this plant it was in a six inch pot . It contained 3 small plants all of which had 2 leaves each and each had made a small runner of it's own. Since getting it home and into a new pot it hasn't stopped growing, though it has yet to produce any flowers for me.
I also grow a lot of stapelias and Witts sells those ,so when they come to the area I usually get something from them.
Lesli,
I was born in MB. I am only 15 minutes south so I make many trips to and from there often. Theres a chance I may know Barbara though I can't say that I know anyone in person locally that is a member of DG. I know there are some but I have not met any of them.
I hope i'm correct in assuming that alohahoya2000 is Carol, if so Carol this plant is growing around a tomato cage that I have pushed down into the pot and yes it has grown out of control since I brought it home. I just keep wrapping the new vines round and round the cage.
It seems like when I first bought this plant that I read someplace that is was quite a slow grower, that info was what I read about H. phyllura. But this plant never ever grew slow so I should have known that something was wrong by the rapid growth rate that it has.
Hoya phyllura This is not the true phyllura, though it's in circulation as such.
Leaves are very hard and large, approx. 10"x4" (25x10 cm), light green in color with a thick and clear venation in a slightly contrasting green color.
Slow grower, seems to require lots of light and humidity to thrive.

hth David.
Hi Ma Vie,
We just keep bumping into each other all over DG!!!(LOL) I wasn't able to open 2 of the links that you posted, the other I had already seen. The thing about the plant that I am asking about is the fact that it grows like a weed. It's not a slow grower by any means. I guess the only way i'm going to know for sure what it is is when I see some flowers.
David, How lucky to be so close to a source of Witt's plants! They really do have kewl succulents and such!
The Pike nearest me quit ordering from them.... if only they'd water the plants ocassionally people would eventually buy them! I now have to drive 50 miles or so to other Pike nurseries that still order from them!
Barb in Myrtle Beach isn't a member of Dave's as far as I know. We knew each other from another forum.
David,
all the link i posted works perfectly on my end. sometimes the problem is on the server. not all servers open links. i know that for a fact cuz some of the bookmarks from former servers i've used won't open for me on this server we have now. i tested them last night, after posting and this morning and they are working fine. sorry :(.
It looks, to me, like the photo of NOT H. phyllura on that Swedish site is H. clemensiorum.
I think Leslie nailed the ID, David....
I hope this worked. i found the thread with the picture. This is my mother plant that I bought as H phyllura from Witts nursery actually it was purchased from a local nursery but originated from Witts.
Very nice David! Look at it goooooooooo!!
:) Donna
